[Analysis] This Is How We Finally Kill Turbotax ( www.youtube.com )

Filing your taxes could be free starting this year. The IRS is running a direct-file pilot program. The goal is to make companies like TurboTax obsolete through a system where your taxes are filled out for you. But tax prep companies are spending millions to block them....

No, it’s because she’s the deciding vote on the judiciary committee and is needed to confirm judges. I’m not saying it like that’s much better, but it’s not because they’re a bunch of old folks looking out for each other.

CapgrasDelusion ,

This is the answer. She doesn't just get replaced instantaneously and she absolutely doesn't get her committee positions filled quickly, if at all. She took things too far to turn back. The GOP will stall any committee replacement for Feinstein. It's already too late. At this point, pulling a Weekend at Bernie's is unfortunately the preferable solution.

Alfa bank is what I read. No, it’s not them. Axos is the rebranded “Bank of the Internet” I once very briefly looked into, and of course the CEO is a grotesquely overpaid republican fart huffer who spends the whole article pretending loaning Trump millions is standard fare and everyone would be crazy not to. Also he’s against the “politicization of banking” (sure) and has no opinions about Trump’s definite role in staging a coup on Jan. 6th, and why would he, he’s a simple banker loaning money to some random guy.

TIL trump sold the Washington hotel, which, good. Although the US got screwed coming and going on that one. Also, justice is a cruel joke and the unredacted Mueller report sits mouldering in Merrick’s hallway bathroom, next to some Sports Illustrateds from 2008.

News: Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants to build a new agency to police Big Tech ( www.theverge.com )

The bill, sponsored by Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), would create a new agency called the Digital Consumer Protection Commission that would be empowered to go after giant tech firms for a slew of anti-competitive behaviors and failing to protect consumer privacy.

I mean, is Warren now among the crusty relics who don't understand technology? That's the implication here.

If you read the article, it sounds like a bunch of very sound and reasonable first steps being outlined. Seems like this is being torpedoed without a second thought based on pretty flimsy reasoning.

If the concern is they won't go far enough... the counterfactual is doing nothing.

Inkscape launches version 1.3 with a focus on organizing work efficiently | Inkscape ( inkscape.org )

With version 1.3 of Inkscape, you’ll find improved performance, several new features, and a solid set of improvements to a few existing ones. This version is squarely focused on helping users get organized and work more efficiently with our free and open source vector-editing software.

DaVinci Resolve has a native Linux version, with the caveat that it can’t import mp4 files (have to convert them to another format beforehand with a tool like ffmpeg.) You also may have to do some tinkering based on your hardware - Arch Wiki has a good compatibility table, though the Debian packages will probably not match what Arch Wiki has listed, and you’ll need to use the installer from the Resolve website since I don’t think Debian has it in their repos.

If you’re looking for something free & open source, Kdenlive is also a great option, though it doesn’t have nearly as much functionality as its more professional-grade counterparts.

I understand the desire to educate, but this post just reeks of whataboutism. Which by the way is a popular method of normalizing horrible behavior favored by authoritarians and proto-facists.
