Every time there's a solar eclipse, a blood moon, a super moon, or any other astronomical phenomenon, we never can see it here in Utah, it's always far too cloudy and too overcast to see anything. Same with this Monday's eclipse, though even if we could, we only would see a portion of it anyway.

"You ain't saw nothing," I'm still trying to figure out what that sentence means. It's sort like something an uneducated thug in britain might say, in a novel. I think what it means is "you didn't see anything." But since it's a double negative, it implies you actually did see something. Very strange!!

tygerprints ,

In English a negative expressed more than once is commonly called a double-negative and also thought to mean the opposite of what the sentence says. It trips me up to read awkward sentences like that, I find it's sort of like a road bump where you don't expect one. But I do realize that it often appears normally in other languages that way.

tygerprints ,

Yeah I didn't need to go there. Blimey!

tygerprints ,

If that kind of twisted and illogical grammar is what you call "easily understood," then I'm beginning to see why we have such a literacy problem. My whole point is that it is NOT easily understood, and in fact I've rarely encountered a more difficultly worded sentence when all the person was trying to say was simply "you didn't see anything." See how easily it can be said AND understood?

tygerprints ,

All of us have biases, but it's wrong to excuse bad grammar as being some kind of "normal." If people can't handle constructive criticism, they shouldn't be submitting stuff to online sites to start with.

tygerprints ,

Ignorance of linguistics is for worthless scum. And I don't give a flying FUCK (read that again) about anyone elses' opinion.

tygerprints ,

Tee hee. I really don't give a fuck what you think either way.

The state supreme court of Maine has also just decided to disqualify trump from the ballot. It shows that there are some states in this country where common sense and American democracy still matter. Former trump did cause insurrection against the country of America, and therefore isn't qualified to even be elected to dogcatcher in our country - no matter what. It's time for this to happen.

tygerprints ,

That would be the state where I live, which is redder than a baboon's ass with heat rash. If trump were removed from the ballot here, I'd eat my underpants with a side of brocolli. I'd have to question everything I thought was real. I'd have to pinch myself with a nipple clamp to see if I'm really dreaming. Maybe I'll do that anyway and take my mind off trump for awhile.

tygerprints ,

It's almost like you're living in some crazy fantasy world where justice actually matters and the supreme court isn't a bunch of entitled right wing baboons. All I can say to that is -- I want to live on that world also!!

Unless you're including all the minor islands and territories, the U.S. only has 50 states to speak of. I know I could identify my state, Texas, Hawaii, California and a couple others. If there are people who can name up to 50 states and where they are on a map, that's pretty damn impressive!

tygerprints ,

I see what you mean about this map being anomalous. Some of the states seem to be doubled, I wondered where they got that 64 states figure from!! My bad!

tygerprints ,

I did finally. My bad for not spotting the anomalies right off. See, your wonderful christian attitude was so helpful.

tygerprints ,

That's true. I doubt most U.S. citizens could actually name most of the states or their locations on a map of the U.S. All I'm saying is that if they can, that's pretty impressive - because so many young people today can't even name a country at random.

tygerprints ,

I think in this country, Christianity does have a monopoly on faith. And monopoly is a good word to use, because religion is really just big business and those who make the most money hold all the cards.

Oh gee, you mean, Landlords are FIXING PRICES on rental properties? Next you'll be telling me Santa Claus is just some fat guy in a red suit.

In Utah (where I am) there are no "tenant's rights." Landlords are all legislators and have passed laws that prohibit tenets from ever taking them to court or having any legal recourse against them.

And now you're telling me they are complete bastards as well. Who would have guessed.

I had a one bedroom in Salt Lake for years, very nice top floor apartment with a huge porch and view overlooking most of the valley. I was paying $1300 a month at the time, but the rent kept going up astronomically every year. Now it's over $3670 a month and without them making any improvements of any kind - I had to move out but I hated giving up my amazing view.

Most renters in Salt Lake are now homeless, the wages here are ridiculously low but housing prices are among the highest in the world here.

tygerprints ,

It might be the only way you CAN save any money these days. I was (kinda) lucky in that my only surviving parent is elderly, has a huge home so I was able to move in with her to be her caretaker - now I'm finally able to save money since I no longer have rent payments. It's a trade off but it has helped me get a little bit ahead.
