Vladimir Putin's attempts to justify the invasion of Ukraine as a just war to reunite historically Russian lands reflect the expansionist ideology at the heart modern Russia's imperial identity, write Glenn Chafetz and John Sipher....
Unlike the modern Turkish state that emerged from the Ottoman Empire
Someone should read about Turkey's "Blue Homeland". There is a reason why Erdogan threatens Greece every now and then. Turkey still has imperial ambitions. They feel "wronged" by history and it is unfair for Greece to own 99.9% of the Aegean Sea islands. Turkey needs more "breathing space". Erdogan is a wannabe Putin.
And the worst part? His opposition isnt much better regarding this issue. This is a big part of why the US still hasnt given Turkey upgraded F-16(F-16V). And why Greece has already been approved for upgrading its F-16 to F-16V and is about to order F-35. I think eventually Turkey will get F-16V, in order to let Sweden into NATO. And then the purchase of F-35 by Greece will be announced.
Turkey is also building, in cooperation with Russia, its first nuclear power plant. If Iran gets nukes, then Saudi Arabia will get nukes too. So Turkey will get nukes. And unless there is a deeper EU integration(EU army) by then, Greece will have to get nukes. If a country's leader brags how their missiles can reach your capital and that country gets nukes, i think it is imperative for you to also get nukes.
France is the only european country who is really willing to go to bat for Greece. NATO and EU are good and all, but before the Ukraine War, we have all seen them keeping their distance from developments and sending "stern letters, hopes and wishes". Hopefully the western assistance to Ukraine has demonstrated to Erdogan how stupid it would be to make a move on Greece.

Can’t believe this little guy was a rescue. One of the top two dogs I’ve ever owned.
