Shocking that an interface explicitly not designed to be stable changes release to release. 🤔

You are trying to enable ClearType only on certain apps? Is ClearType a feature that Microsoft lets apps opt into even when it is disabled (as far as you know)?

Amusing that Firefox gets worse to match Chrome here. Oh well.

Firefox crashed after long inactivity ( fedia.io ) Spanish

Hello, I have a new pc and installed w10 from 0 with all the programs that I have always used; the problem is that firefox has crashed after a long inactivity, the same thing happened on my previous pc i thought it was because i had mistakenly deleted the information from the roaming folder, but not because the event was...

Waterfox has historically tried to maintain functionality that Mozilla isn't interested in maintaining -- and coming out months or years later giving up on those efforts. The issue there seems to be that the company that they had sold to wasn't making enough money to justify increased investment (or they just didn't care). If maintenance is going to struggle by moving away from Mozilla, I don't get the point.

With LibreWolf, I just don't agree with their choices. My own take on web privacy is mostly aligned with Mozilla's -- you can read my tutorial if you like - better privacy by default, but without breaking pages. I'm generally not interested in breaking pages, and I don't think most other people are either.

You are asking how to prevent Google from asking you to sign in?

yoasif Mod ,
@yoasif@fedia.io avatar

You probably want to ask Google about that. You can modify the page using extensions like uBlock Origin as well.

While I am not entirely sure of what you are talking about, it sounds like you are trying to define shortcuts or overrides in X11/Xorg input settings for your input device. My guess is, based on the age of the Firefox port on *nix, and the fact that X is basically dead upstream - is that even if this is a valid bug, you probably won't get a fix very quickly.

Why? It isn't Wayland and I'm guessing the abstractions here are cleaner.

If you want to report the bug that you are experiencing, I would report into the Gtk component: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Core&component=Widget%3A%20Gtk

Updated Firefox to 115.0.1 on Lubuntu - the option to disable the Title Bar has disappeared ( fedia.io )

I don't know when the option was removed since I hadn't updated Firefox on that machine in some time. Normally it's in the customize menu at the bottom left. I can confirm that the option still exists in 104.0.2 since I also haven't updated Firefox on my main machine (a different Ubuntu-based OS). And unless there's some way in...

If you want to find the bug, you can run a mozregression to find what broke it (using 104 as your last known good release and 115 as your bad release).

You can reuse your profile to test this pretty easily if your issue is more easily reproduced with user data.

Firefox is nuking NextDNS with over 20k queries a day.

I tried giving NextDNS a shot. So far it looks great. My only problem it has 300k query limit for free in a month. I tried investigating the source of problem by looking a bit into about:networking and found out many queries has time to live of 300 seconds. I tried turning nextdns cache boost off and on but it made no...

We recommend not using arkenfox user.js, as it can cause difficult to diagnose issues in Firefox. If you use arkenfox user.js, make sure to read the wiki. If you encounter issues with arkenfox, ask questions on their issues page. They can help you better than most members here, as they are the people developing the repository. Good luck!

Is there a way to create a temporary container that will disappear as soon as I close the tab? ( kbin.social )

I know there are addons, but would be nice to have something native built in instead of having to trust an addon. Current method without addons that I know of is creating a container then deleting it, but that's not as convenient and pretty cumbersome....

I had used Temporary Containers, but it hasn't been updated since February 8, 2021. Not actively monitored for security by Mozilla either so stopped using it. That addon was a perfect experience though for what I wanted.

Code doesn't rot, so you can use the extension. Is it not fit for purpose? Are you aware of any security issues? What is the scope of impact if there IS an issue?

Looking for a plugin/addon/theme/config recommendation for a friend who is migrating from Chrome and prefers the tab UI from there, specifically when there are way too many tabs open. ( fedia.io )

Specifically, when you open a reasonable number of tabs in any browser, the tabs look like this. However, as my friend has just imported all of his tabs and bookmarks over from Chrome to Firefox, he has an immense number of tabs open right now; in Chrome, he can see all the tabs at once with its UI. On Firefox, however, it keeps...

For someone like this, it probably makes sense to just throw some more CPU/RAM at it. You have to want to make a change like this to some degree.

yoasif Mod ,
@yoasif@fedia.io avatar

FWIW, it isn't even true that Chrome will show you all of the tabs - the browser continues to let you open tabs even after it stops updating the tab display to indicate that there are additional tabs - some tabs are just going to visually be out of reach, unless you close some tabs.

Firefox ESR is an older version of Firefox that continues to receive security updates. It is made for conservative enterprise environments that care more about stability (as in: not changing) than features or fixes. It may or may not be more stable (ideally, newer versions would fix stability issues in older ESR versions), and may use more or less memory (regressions in memory usage should be reported).

I have tried it in the sense that I have a copy around for testing in those odd cases where someone is using ESR. I don't recommend it.

As far as I can tell, you can set cookiebanners.service.mode and cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsing to 1 to enable the feature as far back as 114. There may be fixes in future versions, so check there before reporting bugs.

PS: You can follow the bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1800679 if you want to track the feature to release.

Kind of a big update... this is the last version of Firefox for Windows 7 and Windows 8, along with macOS 10.12, 10.13, and 10.14. I know this is forcing family members to finally upgrade their (mac) OS.

More big updates:

  • Hardware video decoding is now enabled for Intel GPUs on Linux.
  • We've refreshed and streamlined the user interface for importing data in from other browsers.
  • The builtin editor now behaves similarly to other browsers with contenteditable and designMode when splitting a node, e.g. typing Enter to split a paragraph, and also when joining two nodes, e.g. typing Backspace at the start of a paragraph to join the paragraph and the previous one.

Pretty sure that last feature is what finally fixes the Reddit Fancy Pants editor in Firefox... exactly when Reddit is destroying itself.

  • IndexedDB is now also supported in private browsing without memory limits thanks to encrypted storage on disk. The temporary keys to decrypt the information are hold in RAM only and all stored information is purged at the normal end of a private browsing session from disk.

This might help WhatsApp web run in private browsing, among other sites.

The most impactful thing is definitely going to be OS compatibility... this is going to be the last version of Firefox for a long time for a lot of people.
