Fediverse

So after stumbling across this patently absurd bit of Russian propaganda from noagendasocial.com, I'd thought I'd stroll on over to the instance and see what the fuck is going on over there. After all, it's run by Adam Curry of MTV VJ fame and the so-called podfather, so it's gotta be just one bad apple, right?

Holy fuck, it's like walking into FSB propaganda machine made for Trumptards. That one bad apple is a power user with the top rated post, an anti-LGBTQ+ meme.

@adam what the absolute hell? You used to be cool when I was 8 and watching MTV. Did you lose your morality and ethics when you cut your hair?

TokyoMonsterTrucker ,

Look at his feed. He’s obviously a right-wing lunatic. noagendasocial is a known shithole of the fediverse.

@adam

Holy shit. Given the source, I think that's best praise I've ever gotten in my life. I'm gonna go put that on my profile. @TokyoMonsterTrucker hit me up if you wanna go grab a beer to celebrate.

Seriously though, Adam, you need to take a step back and realize what your toy has become - you're gonna end up with blood on your hands if you keep letting this hate spread. Maybe take a night off and watch The Fisher King - I think it speaks to someone in your position, and when you've got Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges in the cast, you know it's gonna be good.

EDIT: A month later, and it's become clear I'm the one of the few dozens on the Fediverse who actually remember who Adam Curry was. No point in wasting the real estate on my profile for a troll fading into obscurity.

Entirely Automated AI-Powered Balanced News Site

For the last few months our team has been working on an entirely automated AI-powered news site. I am excited to announce that v1.0 is finally being released. This version includes full coverage with every article generated from 2 left leaning, 2 right leaning, and 2 neutral sources. We have also added an anonymous commenting system for people to share their opinions freely. Our servers are now running 24/7 so that new articles appear as they happen! Let me know what you guys think, as well as any comments/concerns/questions you have!

Cyyy ,

can you PLEASE stop to spam this everywhere? my WHOLE feed is full with what feels like 100s of the same post from you. its annoying. welcome on my blocklist.

So glad that stupid meme-of-the-week trends are finding their way over here from Reddit, too. I just love reading 50+ instances of the same unfunny joke in a row.

teft ,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

So glad the complaint posts moved here from reddit. I just love reading the same complaint over and over again instead of blocking communities or users.

Chozo ,

@happyspark I had to just block a handful of the top communities because they were just overwhelming my feed.

Hopefully there'll be some optimizations to the sorting algo soon. I'd love to see the content from those communities, but not only that content. They're just so active that they snuff out anything else, unfortunately.

When I visit the page of a or user/community through a direct link or entering the url (as opposed to navigating to it manually on mastodon), I get taken to the kbin/lemmy instance instead. How can I prevent that?

BloodSlut ,

You can’t. When you go to a different website you’re going to a different website.

That said, there was a recent post about a Firefox add-on that would redirect you to that post on your home instance if you happened to click or enter a URL. I don’t have that post saved so you may have to search for it.

Pamasich OP ,
@Pamasich@kbin.social avatar

@BloodSlut

I think you misunderstand what I meant.

This link: https://mastodon.social/@[email protected]

takes me to the profile on kbin instead.

This happens with any kbin/lemmy community/user. Mastodon seems to automatically redirect, I'm asking if I can turn that off somehow. If I go to a mastodon.social url, I expect to arrive at mastodon.social not kbin.social or lemmy.world.

As I understand it, that addon you're referring to would just redirect a lemmy.world link to kbin.social (aka my home instance) instead. Which isn't really what I'm looking for at all.

JollyTheRancher ,

Looks like lemmy.world has been hacked, I'd advise not going there for a bit.

RedHandsome ,

guys how to add threads?

Why are some community's appearing as empty in kbin while if you go to their instance they have posts ?

BastingChemina ,

I’m curious about that too. It looks like not all post from Kbin are visible on Lemmy.

Fgbd009 OP ,
@Fgbd009@kbin.social avatar

From what I noticed some of the communities that the posts don't appear are nsfw and require you to sign up if you are going through their instance, but since is federated why while being logged in in kbin the posts are not visible?

sithbelle ,
@sithbelle@kbin.social avatar

So I'm definitely missing something with Lemmy...I've tried creating an account on their site, but it's never gone through. I know we get the same stuff on kbin as we do on Lemmy, but I was curious to try both out.

Surely it's not the same account for both, right?

I tried creating my account on Lemmy about a month ago, and it just kept doing the scrolly-wheel of doom and it never appeared to go through. I tried again today to see if it would work now, but, when I try to create the account, it says that it already exists, but trying to log in does nothing.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Taking a break from all the other anti-Reddit anti-Meta posts to note how much better kbin has gotten in just a short amount of time! Love the new layout and we're finally seeing lots of content from everywhere in the verse. Thanks to @ernest for all your hard work.

DBT ,

Looking forward to the Artemis app. The Kbin PWA is ok, but having something more polished will make it so much better.

Apollo was by far my most used app so that’ll be great once we have something similar for kbin.

Just found out that the Mastodon instance that my favorite artist uses (AFAIK*) defederated Kbin/Lemmy instance that I'm currently using. As a result, I think I can't follow this artist. I kinda understand that defederation is important, but... the problem is I don't think the instances I am using did anything wrong. But then again, even the line of what's considered "doing anything wrong" is really subjective, depends on who you asked.

Also, I now understand even more about the drama few days ago about beehaw

*I saw the server list on the Mastodon instance about page, and it listed as "Suspended", I wonder what this means

Jerry ,

@stackPeek You are currently on kbin.social so I assume kbin.social has been suspended (a.k.a. de-federated or blocked) from that server. On Mastodon, "Suspended" means totally blocked. You cannot follow anyone, they cannot follow you. All communication, including API requests, are blocked.

A Mastodon instance blocking kbin.social, is, to me, irrational behavior by the Admin and an extreme disservice to those on the server.

Can you share the name of the Mastodon instance?

stackPeek OP ,
@stackPeek@kbin.social avatar

@Jerry

WOW. That's really really bad. And I doubt it's going to be easy convincing artists to move to other instances.

Can you share the name of the Mastodon instance?

mastodon[dot]art

Based on the "Moderated Servers" section, it looks like their reasoning is "Not moderating far right content"

This is insane, because I literally never seen any remotely negative post in kbin.social, let alone far-right content

How come more people are searching "mastodon" this week?

Lenny is showing them how well a fediverse can work, so they want to try more social media based on it. Also twitter is a tire fire right now.

I proactively blocked the box of c*nts, aka Facebook's new Threads domain, on the user level. It's not easy, but here is a link showing how to do it. https://medium.com/@geofbard/how-to-block-server-domains-in-mastodon-899b24f8fb6e

We'll see if it works once they add Activity Pub integration.

And I blocked them because they are a box of c*unts. And I'll leave it up to instances to do whatever they want with Threads.
