Donald Trump has violated the gag order placed on him during his NY trial ten times so far. If he keeps violating it, what should Judge Juan Merchan do?
Last time, he said the next violation would mean jail "if appropriate." That left wiggle room. On the next violation, he should tell Trump his patience is over and if there's another one, he'll put Trump in jail for 24 hours, adding at least a day to the time for each new violation after that.
@rbreich If you picked a random person off the street and put them where Trump is now, they'd be rotting in a cell. Trump is a rich white guy with a slavishly devoted following, so everybody handles him with kid gloves. If the judicial system continues to let him get away with ignoring the rules, he'll see that these threats have no teeth. No consequences seems much worse in the long run, especially if he manages to get elected again.
@rbreich
Since the threat of jail, it seems the "the Don" has put a muzzle in himself... But, if he breaks it again he has to do time. It he doesn't, he'll get the message that he's basically immune.
Sentence him to 40 hours of public service, 4 hours for each violation. Give him a trash bag & reflective safety vest and make him pick up trash on the interstate.
👩⚖️⚖️👩⚖️⚖️*The judge should had long time ago put evil Trump in jail and allowed only to go to his trial👩⚖️⚖️👩⚖️⚖️ Every time Evil Trump breaks his gag order an abuse and dangerous incitement occurs!*Why is this being tolerated with no jail time?👩⚖️⚖️👩⚖️⚖️
@rbreich - Judge Merchan knows to tread lightly to avoid adding to the inevitable arguments for a mistrial. But at this point, depending on the seriousness of Trump’s next violation, he should consider holding Trump in contempt and jailing him for 1-2 hours. And work his way up from there.
@rbreich , what he should do appears to not going to be the thing he is going to do. Trump's wrist is going to be a little bit more pink at the end of this trial.
