@rbreich it’s not drifting passively- it’s getting an enormous push from a vast reich wing power grab that spans the globe. -

@rbreich

Let me correct that for you.

"Why are authoritarians successfully pushing the world toward authoritarianism, neofascism, and dictatorship?"

@rbreich I hate to blame the messenger, but when many of the messengers are just conduits to amplify the lies of the shiftiest crooks, and can't acknowledge an objective difference between right & wrong, they need to shoulder a good part of the blame.

@rbreich Good question. Whatever the reason, this trend MUST be opposed & defeated, or we face a new Dark Age for the whole of humanity.

@rbreich Because almost all the people that lived through it 100 years ago are gone. History is repeating itself.

@rbreich It's not drifting. It's being driven there. That's been the end game of corporate capitalism since at least the 1960s. The lords of capital either had to give up control or kill or jail so many of us that they could stop the global changes seen in the 60s. They've been pushing us in this direction for decades.

@rbreich because liberal democracies have utterly failed, having nominally governed vast inequality, climate catastrophe and now open support for genocide. We hear cries to support democracy and the rule of law at a time when democracy fails us all and there is no law for the rich and powerful.

The rich and powerful fear that liberal democracy will no longer suffice to legitimate their wealth and power, and thus we are at the door of force, authority and raw power to defend their position
