Brompton C Line Electric review: Fun and foldable, fits better than you’d think

A motor evens out its natural disadvantages, but there's still a learning curve.

@arstechnica Strange comment on gear shifting. It’s a 3 speed hub gear – lessen pressure when changing – coupled with a 2 speed derailleur – change while pedalling. I’ve ridden Bromptons on and off for 40 years, and grew up with (Sturmey Archer) hub gears.

@arstechnica I don't see any information about the weight of this bike.

I bought a Lectric Lite for $800 delivered. It comes assembled; you just put in the seat. There are now screws for folding. It's sturdy and heavy duty. Normal size tires. I'm not seeing the benefit of a $3000-$4000 ebike.

@arstechnica They're carbon fiber. So light you can't actually see them.

@arstechnica I can’t imagine strapping that 4kg battery and motor on my C line. At that weight you’d nearly have to go for the P line

@arstechnica I tried one of these when I was shopping for a new bike. But I didn’t feel stable on a little folding bike (I know that is a me problem). I ended up getting a full-size bike.

Still, if you have very limited space, this is probably a good idea. They make a basket with a battery in it that you can stick on the front.
