Cis woman here. I run in pretty leftist circles and whilst I don't see open misandry as much anymore, I also don't see as many people speaking about men's issues as I'd like. If I do see people speaking about men or masculinity in a problematic way, it's usually people who are receptive to being challenged, once I've pointed things out.

I've seen this picture so many times, and every time, I think "what an excellent photo".

We had a mongrel from a shelter who clearly had some border collie in him. He showed it in his behaviour too, he'd try and herd me and my brother if we went too far away on walks. If we wandered off while he was on a lead, he'd get really agitated because he couldn't herd us. It was annoying and cute in equal measure.

Oh man, as someone who’s been interfacing with a lot of university bureaucracy lately, this is so on point it hurts. I feel like you could get a press release from my university and swap in some Star Trek words and it’d be a similar vibe.

Thank you for adding this link.

I really enjoy how whenever I find a paywalled article, I can usually head to the comments and find someone like you helping out. This also means that when I find that no-one has added an unblocked link yet, there is an organic sense of it being “my turn” to help out, like I’m taking out the bins in a shared house. I like having a space where I don’t mind doing chores, and the key to that is feeling like the load is shared

What’s the strongest opinion you have on the stack you know (or one of its elements)? Not necessarily “interview-safe” opinions

For one of my friends, who I respect greatly, it means coming to terms with the fact that it’s not plausible for them to get a job that they’re passionate, in their field of study. They have less identity based attachment to the job they do have, and whilst they do generally like their job, they see it as a means to an end.

They know they probably could find a better job, perhaps even one in their field, but they’re happy with the balance of priorities they have now because it’s mostly working.

I hope you’re in a less shitty environment now, whatever field that may be in

Can someone give me adivice on how/where to get back into star trek?

As a kid i loved watching the next generation and deep space 9 with my dad. Ive always liked sci fi, more of a (stargate fan) and wanted to get back into star trek, but Im just so lost on timelines and whats going on. There are like 6 kirks and I have no idea how/where to get started with watching this again.

AnarchistArtificer ,

I really need to give that a try, I haven’t got round to it, but I keep seeing recommendations

AnarchistArtificer ,

It feels pretty shitty to be a disabled person scrolling by and seeing comments like this. I don’t think that Abbott being a shitty person makes your statement any less hurtful to non-shitty disabled people

AnarchistArtificer ,

I don’t know if the person you’re replying to was mistaken, or whether votes are different from sponsors, but I’m seeing two Democrats here.

But that’s a minor clarification that doesn’t reduce the point at all - that’s a heck of a lot of Republicans
