Yeah. This is probably it. Kbin, lemmy.ml, etc. all went down at some point in June. Idk about Mastodon, though, but the graphs line up with what I remember happened in June.
Hey everyone, a while ago I made [this post] (https://kbin.social/m/linux/t/108370/Help-me-find-a-fitting-distro) asking for recommandations of distros. After some considerable thinking I went ahead and chose EndeavourOS (with Gnome) due to wanting an experience as close to Arch as possible but having some handholding at the...
'sup? So, I am a beginner that has an old Samsung laptop from 2013 with an i3 4005U, a GeForce 710M, 500GB HDD (I will probably upgrade it to an SSD, but not for now.), 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3L RAM (the same for the HDD, will probably upgrade to 8GB some time.). It currently has Windows 10 Home but Linux is probably lighter (right?)...
I’d go with a “light” DE for now, or a WM if possible (although it’s very different from windows). Your laptop isn’t bad - it’s actually better than mine (i3 with no discrete gpu), but i added 8gb ram (now it’s 12gb total) and it was a game-changer.
Imo, Mint or Debian is okay if you don’t want to stray far from Windows but your choice of DE is pretty limited with a small amount of ram. Maybe use xfce?
Also check out antix, puppy linux, or lubuntu. Those might be better choices while you haven’t upgraded your memory. Idk much about dual boot since I use Linux alone on my laptop or vm on my desktop.
I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer....
Well said. If you want to mean all the things connected to ActivityPub, you say Fediverse. If it’s restricted to lemmy, use lemmy. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. OP saying it borders on ignorance may have to think about it.
I use lemmy. I don’t really care for nor use other Fediverse services like Mastodon.
He doesn't look it, but Toby is 14! ( sh.itjust.works )
And he is the best boy I’ve ever had.
When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines." ( media.kbin.social )
what happened to the fediverse in June 2023? why did everything go down? ( media.kbin.social )
