I’m not criticising you in any way, but I’d like to protect you from future spoilers and suggest not using the card view on your app. You can set post size to compact in Voyager

OP said they want to watch a progressive Star Trek

HardlightCereal ,

Yeah but then Kelly gets kidnapped by the superstitious aliens who believe in starsigns, and Seth’s immediate reaction is to fly down to the planet and call them stupid for believing in religion. Because that’s totally how you solve diplomatic problems while displaying respect for diverse cultures.

HardlightCereal ,

Kirk flirted with a little girl. Because that was normal in the 60s.

HardlightCereal ,

and God is real

Lots of gods are real in Star Trek. Like Kukulkan.

HardlightCereal ,

If you’re a kid, start with Prodigy. If you have a tiny attention span, start with Lower Decks. If you’re used to mainstream modern TV, start with Strange New Worlds. If you can tolerate 90s TV, start with TNG season 2. If you love old TV, start with TOS.

The best entry point is going to depend on who you are. There’s lots of diverse Trek for different kinds of people.

Prime directive. The Federation can apply such ideals to their own citizens and to foreigners who ask for help, but not to foreign citizens who don’t ask. The Borg try to assimilate Federation citizens, so the Federation has a valid cassus belli for war. The Bynars aren’t attacking any other species, so the prime directive doesn’t apply.

The comments are all saying that’s not crazy, it’s just how jazz artists express themselves.

Rutherford learned to value his creations unconditionally without caring what other people think of them

I hate this era of late stage capitalism where we reward companies for cancelling shows by buying all their merch

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x09 "Subspace Rhapsody"

LoglineAn accident with an experimental quantum probability field causes everyone on the USS Enterprise to break uncontrollably into song, but the real danger is that the field is expanding and beginning to impact other ships—allies and enemies alike....

HardlightCereal ,

Yep, it’s the best episode

I hated musicals until the structure and theory was explained to me. Maybe you liked this episode because it directly addressed the plot conventions it was hitting and the structure of musicals. Check out the channel Sideways on youtube, he does a great job explaining musical theory in cinema, including musicals and nonmusicals.

These are some really good Xcretions

Thoughts on adding a bathroom

I have a 4bd/2ba that I want to add another bathroom to. There is a small “office” (it’s not big enough to be considered another room) that I would like to convert to said bathroom. The two existing bathrooms are right next to each other in the rear of the house and the water cutoff is in front of the property, on the...

I once got a permanent ban for threatening violence

I was writing a satirical post from the perspective of Dracula and saying I love drinking people’s blood

I think Mariner is a little bit too “too cool for school” and Boimler is a little bit too racist against orions, but it’s still quite accurate to the characters

HardlightCereal ,

Yeah, that’s the worst Tendi gets in the whole series. She usually has excellent self control.

HardlightCereal ,

Man, I knew I loved LDS after the first 5 minutes. Show came out the gate running

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x07 "Those Old Scientists"

LoglineAn accident while investigating a time portal sends Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Bradward Boimler through time from the 24th century, and Captain Pike and his crew must get them back where they belong before they can alter the timeline....

Some Orions haven’t been pirates for 5 years!

HardlightCereal ,

There’s also the Orion on DS9 who likes to talk big game about being a pirate, but he’s actually from Cincinnati and has never pirated anything in his life

HardlightCereal ,

Also the difference between the flagship of Starfleet and the bottom of the barrel California class. Shaxs would never get away with screaming about the warp core all the time on the Enterprise, and Freeman is constantly struggling to make the Cerritos look like a serious ship to the rest of Starfleet

HardlightCereal ,

The Cerritos is also canonically the silliest ship in Starfleet. Freeman is always struggling to be taken seriously

HardlightCereal ,

I actually think Lower Decks is closer to the core of Star Trek than SNW. I mean, you couldn’t do a “the enterprise got pregnant” episode in SNW

SNW has been continually frustrating me by almost being great trek but continually falling short. Like, that prime directive episode on the forgetting planet was great, right up until the captain decided to flagrantly ignore the prime directive and destroy a culture’s individuality
