Trump's now pretending to take the side of tipped workers, but his Labor Dept changed a rule to make it easier for bosses to pocket workers' tips. This cost tipped workers an estimated $700 million a year in wages.

Target's profit increased 49% to $4.1B last year, even with slower sales.

Its CEO received $18M in compensation on the year while the company paid $508M in dividends in Q4.

Makes you wonder if Target could have lowered its prices a lot sooner but just chose not to.

The CEO-to-worker pay gap at America’s largest companies was 344-to-1 last year.

In 1965, the ratio was 20-to-1.

This explosion in CEO pay relative to the pay of workers isn’t because CEOs have become so much more valuable.

They've just gamed the system to line their pockets.

Half of Amazon warehouse workers struggle with food and housing costs.

A third of the workers have had to rely on at least one government assistance program.

Amazon's stock hit an all time high in April. Jeff Bezos is now worth $203 billion.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

@rbreich I'm sure you know he could end world hunger... my spouse did the numbers and he can afford to give all his employees MADDDD bonus and still be one of the riches white men.. those bonuses would be life changing for those employees and so would ending world hunger

@rbreich Tome gave herself a 4 mill bonus while firing a whole lotta management... she is the people of UPS. We should have gone on strike and gotten MORE of what we deserve. Been there 25years and never seen ANY support for part timers in ANY contract. Even though they are the minority and the back bone

Trump’s team claimed that their tax law would boost household income by $4,000.

Well, the numbers are in.

New research shows that workers who earned less than $114,000 saw “no change in earnings.”

Meanwhile, top executive salaries increased sharply.

It was always a scam.

@rbreich sense the last year donny was in office my spouse and I have owed. Even after ALWAYS having the most taken out... this is the 1st time in my life I have owed... I don't make enough to owe. People in my tax bracket don't have 500 bucks in savings.... but bezos gets a return!

I still hear people arguing that prosecuting a former president sets a “dangerous precedent.”

The truly dangerous precedent would be to establish that presidents are above the law.

Remember: The real freeloaders in this country are the rich, not the poor.

The richest 1% evade $163 billion in taxes every year.

The United States literally has a yacht tax deduction.

The top 10% of richest Americans own 87% of stocks.

The top 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.

It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.

LuLuLove ,
@LuLuLove@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich you know back in the 80s the people owned 80% of the stock market... that's when things were a bit easier for people financially and that's how it is supposed to be

Remember: Most billionaires are not “self-made.” They’re made via a combination of inherited wealth, government subsidies, tax loopholes, labor exploitation, and policy failures. Can we stop perpetuating a myth that blames wealth inequality on the choices of everyday Americans?

@rbreich I don't know what any of you are talking about. They must have done a better job at pulling themselves up by the boot straps................ bahahahahaha
