Half of Amazon warehouse workers struggle with food and housing costs.

A third of the workers have had to rely on at least one government assistance program.

Amazon's stock hit an all time high in April. Jeff Bezos is now worth $203 billion.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

@rbreich I understand, but I like to have things delivered to my doorstep. It's just that before I had to go to the trouble of leaving the house and going to a neighborhood store with the clerk looking at me with a disgusted look on his face. I'm sorry I'm guilty, I'm very selfish, I admit it.

@rbreich when a Walmart, Amazon etc employee applies for public assistance, the employer must be invoiced.

@rbreich government should govern! If there are no laws obligating a business, they are going to maximize profit. Everytime, everywhere.

@rbreich I am very happy to be in a situation where afaik I have been able to avoid using Amazon (besides Goodreads), and hopefully it will stay that way.

@rbreich Bezos could give every Amazon employee $100k right now and still be a billionaire.

@rbreich I'm sure you know he could end world hunger... my spouse did the numbers and he can afford to give all his employees MADDDD bonus and still be one of the riches white men.. those bonuses would be life changing for those employees and so would ending world hunger

@rbreich corporate welfare is out of control, the only reason Musk has as much monas he does is because the US government gave him billions of dollars to multiple companies that he owns & we got nothing in return...

@rbreich Whenever there are safety net programs for people, the wealthy manipulate them. Not only wages being low to take advantage of food programs, but rents going up to match rental assistance programs, or tuition going up to match student loan programs.
