I use Mikrotik networking gear. I love the capabilities, just wish RouterOS was a bit easier to administer.

I echo the other commenters, a NUC is a great beginner system for homelab; if all you want or need is minimal resources. For learning enterprise management or workloads, I’d say you need a full fledged server. There is nothing in common with a NUC and a Poweredge, for example. What is your homelab for you? A few VMs and one disk system attached to a COTS NAS? NUC will be fine. Wanting to learn to manage a Server with full on RAID, hot swap drives and 64G ram? You’re gonna want a server.

Announcement: Startrek.website will be read-only for a while, and down for a few hours while we migrate hosts (Sept 4th) EDIT- we're back!

EDIT: We are back, see this thread in /c/Quark’s It’s read-only so that we don’t miss anything while all our isolinear chips get backed up. Apologies for the inconvenience and we’ll resume full-power systems ASAP.

If it really was over a FLAG and what it stands for, that’s some insecure attitude.

Criminals already don’t follow the law; that’s why they’re considered criminals. Why would those who need weapons care about or follow gun control laws? How’s that working out for the war on drugs in the US?

More than a few, but here’s a few I’d recommend in that price range (NOTE: Not beginner friendly)

Mikrotik Router only, no AP - $95

Smaller MT with less ports, no AP - $50

Router with Wireless AP, above $100 - $150

The subreddit should have a list of rules for you to read and follow to prevent this sort of annoying retry situation. Perhaps read them if you want to participate in the community.

Revoking the SSH Keys of a Friend Sucks

I’m just going to be vulnerable for a minute here. I met the first person in real life who had similar server-y linux-y obsessions to me and we’d send eBay links of systems to drool over to eachother. They ended up being a terrible person but hid it from me pretty well until they couldn’t anymore and now I no longer have...

Which particular episode(s) of Star Trek do you find yourself going back to?

Just interested if there’s an episode of a particular series you find yourself going back to? Not necessarily “the best” or your favorite, just one you gravitate toward for a comfort re-watch? Here’s the episodes from each series I find myself re-watching a lot:...

What's the correct method to attach 2x6s to concrete blocks?

Have a porch outside that is cracked and rotten, and the header boards are split and can’t be drilled/screwed into. So I need to replace those. What’s the correct way to attach 2x6 headers to concrete blocks, to remain secure and proper? This would specifically be for 2x6s flat against the concrete, not end to concrete.
