Then Trump’s lawyer should stop trying to stall the court dates. All could be sorted if they just went to court and made their case. Instead they keep using stupid stalling tactics in an attempt to push the verdict beyond the election time. All so Trump can pardon himself and avoid the issue of having to face up to his actions.

Probably because polling suggest many will vote for this idiot.

So his first amendment right is to call for the murder of the top military, disparage election processes and their employees, intimidate witnesses that are part of an investigation against him as well as the judiciaries in charge of that process. But no one in anyway shape or form are allowed to call him out on this.

I kind of agree with this one. However, I feel that boat is sailing as any new candidate will have to build up credibility.

Taylor Swift asked fans to register to vote and did they ever ( www.dailykos.com )

Taylor Swift is currently one of the biggest stars in the country. She is still on her record-breaking “Eras” tour, ranks as the second-most-played artist on Spotify this year, and, in July, scored the biggest week of sales for an album this year with “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” She’s using that cultural clout to...

Part of that could be cured in the education system. The two main parties in the UK are happy that the country has an ignorance regarding the importance of voting. The US is very much the same. It is much easier to pander to a small voter base. If the kids start voting then this pushes strategies into the long grass.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Shouldn’t be like that imo. We should be educating kids better.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

As I have already said, this should be part of our education system.

I hate this idiotic boomer generalisation. It has no foundation in anyway shape or form. It is just culture wars that people buy into. Yes older people vote more, but they have the same statistics when they were young as the young do now. They haven’t spent their whole lives voting selfishly. In the UK the only reason you have more boomers in the group is because the group is based on 18 years and not 15 like the other groups. When you average out how many are in each group by year they come in 3rd lowest. The highest is the gen X. By the time these people were 18 they were not even the largest group then. People die leave the country and other emigrate in. It is just a stupid fallacy people have latched onto.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Don’t call them boomers then. Call them people over 50 or 60… they are a majority demographic-wise.

What? I responded to your reference. There are also more people under 50 than over 50. That is just plain ridiculous.

Baby boomers are pulling the average well above 50

Please show me where you are getting this from.

Younger immigrants can’t vote, so even asking young people to vote you still have a majority of old people that can vote.

What has immigration to do with age demographics? You are attacking people of a certain age with a generalisation then throwing a totally different issue into the mix in a feeble attempt to reinforce that argument.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

That is voter share, that does not indicate that there are more over 50s than under 50s.

Syldon ,

That is just buying into accepting the current model where the rich can have it all at the expense of the poor. The model is the problem not the amount we have to distribute.

Child poverty in the United States just more than doubled. You can thank Joe Manchin. ( www.motherjones.com )

The United States’ poverty rate experienced its largest one-year jump on record last year, with the rate among children more than doubling from 2021’s historic low of 5.2 percent to 12.4 percent according to new numbers from the US Census Bureau out today. They’re the latest data to reflect the devastating effects...

Bernie Sanders Champions 32-Hour Work Week With No Loss in Pay ( www.commondreams.org )

As part of his Labor Day message to workers in the United States, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday re-upped his call for the establishment of a 20% cut to the workweek with no loss in pay—an idea he said is “not radical” given the enormous productivity gains over recent decades that have resulted in massive profits for...

The vacation period is a minimum standard in the EU.

Beyond the daily and weekly rest periods, your staff has the right to at least 4 weeks of paid holidays per year. You cannot replace these holidays with a payment unless the employment contract has ended before the staff member has used up all their annual leave.

In the UK minimum holiday entitlement is 28 days. I am always appalled at how badly the US allows it workers to be treated. I really wish the US would start thinking more about working to live and not living to work.

Doesn’t this leave the original lawyer open to some sort of complaint. If he told his client to perjure himself then surely this can have consequences.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

If he is so innocent and this is nothing more than a witch hunt then defend yourself in court. It is not like he does not have the money for a defence. A $250m crowd fund took care of that. The fact that it is obvious he wants to take advantage of presidential prerogatives just shows he feels he has no other way out.

What aggressive act has NATO done?

AFAIK NATO has never started a conflict. It has reacted to some already in progress, but it has never initiated any military invasion since its inception.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Yugoslavia was an ongoing civil war, and was a humanitarian intervention only. NATO positioned themselves between the factions to prevent any further conflicts arising. NATO were criticised for not participating in stopping some of the atrocities at the time.

Libya was in response to a UN resolution regarding the conflict already ongoing within Libya.

Syria had a civil war running for years prior to US intervention. ISIS decided Syria was destabilized so much that it decided to form a self made country there. It was because of ISIS that some NATO countries intervened.

Afghanistan was a US led initiative that included a lot of NATO countries over its period, but was not initiated by NATO. It was in response to a cumulation of events, the penultimate was the 911 attacks in New York. The initial attacks were US, UK, Canada, NZ, Germany, Italy and the Arab NA. So no it was not a NATO attack, and no it was not initiated by any NATO state.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Nice word salad that doesn’t change the fact that NATO attacked Afghanistan and abused the people of the country for two decades.

Many countries were involved with Afghanistan and as I said it was in response to an attack on US soil. The rest is just gibberish and ignores the fact that there was an ongoing conflict before any NATO country intervened. No one can deny that mistakes were made in the handling or the initiatives involved, but this is not due to NATO attacking another nation to start a conflict.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

Countries have been killing each other since their inception. Again this is not NATO that is individual countries.

Syldon ,
@Syldon@feddit.uk avatar

And Again no one is denying that there were actions taking place. Again only one of those was NATO. None was instigated, every single one was in response to another’s action. You combine a lot of what the US does with the rest of NATO countries.

That is similar to saying every country in the BRICS is party to Russia’s failed invasions of Afghanistan, Armenia, Chechnya or Ukraine. The BRICS are not responsible, Russia is solely responsible for the instigation of the invasive action without any other reason than self interest. It was a feeble attempt to extend their borders.

AFAIK not a single member has tried to extend their own border since its creation. Even the US with its aggressive actions in the last 50 years has not held onto any country it has held operations in. The hand over back to the nations concerned may not have been done very well. A statement both Russia and China cannot repeat with any honesty.
