They don't just want your work output; they want your soul.

They want the old days where people were 100% believers in their jobs at places like WeWork, Uber, Tesla, and Facebook...before the general public became disillusioned with tech companies specifically and companies in general more broadly. They want "evangelists" and the belief of the mid-Obama years back...

The only problem is that many have looked at things over the last ten years and found that the euphoric promises made by the management of companies were lies.

The platonic ideal corporation would be an entity that has no employees, extracts rent from everything, has no expenses, produces no products, and pays no taxes.

This platonic ideal is a parasitic organization that serves no purpose, but we’ve structured our entire economy around the endless pursuit of it in all sectors.

If you drive a lot, then just the gas savings alone will cover the cost of membership.

Their membership fee is $60 which I cover in a few cases of beer. I pay what I paid for a case of beer ten years ago at Costco. They don’t have everything, but what they do have is often a much, much better value than any other store I’ve shopped at.

Hard to claim you drive American industry but produce in Mexico.

Yeah Ford’s multi-million dollar “all in on America” football ad campaign will look pretty fucking ironic if they move all of their production elsewhere.

(Not that I believe it anyway)

Its a particular framing that I think we can say does not guarantee any kind of result of profitability, but seems particularly enshrined in modern management culture.

It’s enshrined in a management culture that has largely conquered labor through a mixture of anti-union measures and taking capitalism global so that they can pay as close to zero as possible for labor in other countries.

Sure, the products and services (and the country) all suffer, but nobody really seems to give a shit about that.

This is a flawless plan, especially since they pinky swore that they wouldn’t keep around the information you put into the black box AI. So we’re all safe!
