Hollywood accounting doesn’t apply to studios that are publicly traded, only their projects. But anyway, because they’re public, we know what their profits are:
2022 profits
Disney (NYSE: DIS) $28.321 billion
Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) $12.447 billion
Warner Brothers Discovery (NASDAQ: WBD) $13.375 billion
Some of these are obviously corporate figures and don’t necessarily reflect how well the production department of each corp is doing. Still, it reflects the fact that these corporations could easily (well, mostly) absorb the costs of what SAG-AFTRA/WGA are asking for.
Sony has all their fiscal year information published but not collated by calendar year, and I couldn’t be bothered to dig it up myself, so I just took their word for it.
Conservative groups have crafted a plan for demolishing the federal government’s efforts to counter climate change — and it wouldn’t stop with President Joe Biden’s policies....
Uh, the capitalists don’t give a fuck what happens next quarter; what makes you think they’ll care about what happens next quarter-century? Profit is the god we’re forced to worship, and we have bound and trussed earth’s biosphere for that altar.
But is Meta/Facebook gaining any better? Remember, this was the company that gladly shared information with Cambridge Analytica to affect the 2016 US elections. And they’re collecting an absolutely monstrous amount of data from each Thread user.
They’re absolutely ignoring the fact that you can walk into any retailer and buy flag plastered merch all year round, but most of them only sell “Hey, maybe other people deserve to exist too?” stuff from June 1st to June 29th.
They’re implying there are more hateful bigots in the US and that Target would lose more money by them not shopping there due to Pride merch than they’d make by selling it.
Which is probably not true for Target’s clientele, but my local Walmart definitely didn’t have any rainbow stuff for sale this year.
