In his speech to the NRA, Trump yet again suggested he might serve more than two terms.

The 22nd Amendment bars that, but if the 14th Amendment didn't apply to him, why should any others?

If Trump wins, do you believe he will leave office at the end of a second term?

gooba42 ,
@gooba42@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich I don't believe he'd ever leave office except feet first. There just isn't any reason to expect him to respect any laws or customs because the GOP will never impeach him and the SCOTUS is in his pocket.

There are no checks and balances, we were told lies in our civics classes.

Volvo debuts its fully autonomous big rig truck powered by Aurora’s tech

Some believe autonomous trucks are the answer to a shortage of truck drivers.

@arstechnica You can always make more truck drivers. All you have to do is pay humans enough to make it worth their while and they spontaneously transform into truck drivers.

How can Justice Alito be allowed to rule on Jan 6-related matters after flying a pro-insurrection flag?

gooba42 ,

@rbreich You weren't a fascist.

That's the difference. There are no rules binding on a fascist and they consider it a mark of strength and high character not to comply with the rules of "lesser men".

You can't shame them, they're proud of their hypocrisy.

We can only destroy them. That'sthe remedy to fascism. There is no other.

Judge Cannon has postponed Trump's classified documents trial and didn't set a new start date.

The Supreme Court is slow walking Trump's classified documents case, which has delayed his Jan 6 trial.

The federal judiciary is effectively acting like a MAGA campaign arm.

gooba42 ,
@gooba42@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich This is explicitly why spots were held open for Trump's appointees. This is what Republican success looks like after generations of actively working to lay the groundwork for an overtly fascist takeover.

MAGAts aren't Republicans gone rogue, it's Republicans triumphant.

I can't believe I even have to say this, but it is not normal that the Supreme Court is taking its sweet time to decide if the president can incite an insurrection to overturn an election and maintain power. This should have been decided already. The answer is no!

gooba42 ,
@gooba42@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich Their decision is "Immunity only applies to Trump". That was the plan right from the beginning when Trump's people allowed him to pack the court with his pet judges.

They ruled a couple of cases somewhat okay to provide cover for when he'd call on them to protect him.

They will defer this decision as long as possible to make sure Trump can be the only beneficiary of their treason.

I'm not saying we shouldn't worry about how China might be using TikTok to steal our data and manipulate us...

But why aren't we at least as worried about the U.S. billionaires who own the other apps stealing our data and trying to manipulate us?

gooba42 ,
@gooba42@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich The global oligarchy wants us all distracted with "patriotism" and xenophobia. This is how they maintain control of their various fiefs.

The assault on TikTok isn't about national security as much as it's about a turf war between oligarchs. American disinfo merchants want to maintain their relatively secure monopoly on Americans.
