When I was a mere clerk for the 1st circuit appeals court, I wasn't allowed to have a political bumper sticker for fear of creating even the appearance of bias on the court.

How can Justice Alito be allowed to rule on Jan 6-related matters after flying a pro-insurrection flag?

@rbreich It certainly seems like some culture of basic decency has been shed and "whatever you can get away with" is now nakedly the GOP modus operandi. The politics of division and "wedge issues", negative campaigning now ratcheted up to levels better described as propaganda...when did it start? Who has managed to make it pass as normal and not alarm the electorate? How can we put it back under the rock from which it crawled?

@rbreich When you were a clerk there was still some respect for norms. It turns out that at the highest levels of government, norms were the only thing holding bad behavior in check, and they’ve all been destroyed by the MAGA crowd.

@rbreich Independent contractor working with the VHA. Got called in to help enhance some digital imaging studies on an emergent patient. Didn't have time to change my clothes.

MPs made me borrow a lab cost to cover a potentially political T-shirt. It was an American flag except the stars were cat heads with the caption Ameowica.

Weird how a crazy cat lady shirt is worse than supporting an insurrection.

@rbreich we really need to vote in a convicting supermajority in the Senate and keep the House. Then IMPEACH-O-RAMA!

cpurdy ,
@cpurdy@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich As a Democrat, your bumper sticker would have been a clear violation of moral and ethical standards.

As a Republican, it would be somehow un-American for Alito to not attempt to undermine the Constitution, overturn an election, and destroy the rule of law.

Or something like that. 🤷‍♂️

blazeoryan ,

@rbreich easy he is part of an active coup. The next election will seal that deal for Trump. No one is stopping them and they’ve been sitting there waiting for 4 years to finish it up. Absolutely disgusting but that’s America… down in ruins because the rule of law has been shredded along with the constitution.

The rise of the Third Reich was enabled by hyper partisan right wing judges from the days of the monarchy who openly let right wing criminals off the hook while giving socialists the death penalty.

Because America is broken and centrist democrats relish in their power to keep control of the party by saying its their guy or doom and they have since W with no plan to fix things except Blue No matter who as things get worse and worse and worse

What is the diff between the American flag desecrated and flown upside down and the pro-insurrection flag you speak of?
Thanks

@rbreich
AND, after he LIED about WHY it was being flown: He said it was to protest the neighbor's offensive sign, which was posted near a school bus stop. Think of the children!!!

Only one teensy problem - schools in Alexandria (where he lives) and indeed all of Fairfax County VA were in session REMOTELY because of COVID. So there were no children at the bus stop, and there had been no children at the bus stop FOR MONTHS.

@rbreich It's not revealing anything we didn't already know, especially since the current court doesn't believe that "appearance of bias" is a real thing.
