Whatā€™s so bad about siding with the ā€œprisonersā€? Not with the ā€œcriminalsā€ mind you, just the ā€œprisonersā€.

In many countries, prisons have the mandate to ā€œreeducate and reinsert into societyā€, and while privation of liberty is a punishment in itself, itā€™s intended only as a way to turn criminals too dangerous to let loose, into upstanding citizens once they do their time.

Prisoners can be ā€œcitizens in the makingā€, not just ā€œcriminals thrown in a holeā€. That might be the first point to try to get through.

Yeahā€¦ from the descriptions of this case, it seems like it was more of an execution, with other inmates high-fiving the killer as he was beating the victim, and personnel conspicuously absent for over an hour even as it was being recorded on camera.

Then again, there was the Epstein case, where he was ā€œleft aloneā€ and just the cameras and all checks ā€œhappened to failā€ all at the same time.

The downside of ā€œcells of oneā€, is people who get suicidal. In civilized countries, new inmates get paired with a ā€œtrusted inmateā€ for the first couple weeks, both to show them the ropes, but also to prevent them from hanging themselves with one.

This seems to be kind of on point with the current political issues surrounding the TurĆ³w brown coal mine in Poland:

What are they going to do put cameras in every bathroom and toilet stall in the state?

Not enough. Youā€™d need a camera in every toilet, and people to review the footageā€¦ maybe reduce government spending by crowd-sourcing it, post the videos on ā€œhidden cameraā€ porn sites and let the community voteā€¦ šŸ™„

cannot be resolved through therapy or socialization/conversion therapy

Iā€™d go further, and say that anything that needs ā€œjustā€ therapy, is also a medical condition.

The mentality of ā€œas long as it lets you work, it doesnā€™t matter whether you suffer or notā€ is pretty inhumane, IMHO.

But it was 6.5 hours, so just slightly over 11 officers per hour. Maybe they took turns?.. or they had a shift change in the middle, so that would be two shifts.

Email encryption is kind of broken, but kind of in a good way: if you donā€™t have the recipientā€™s key, then you canā€™t send an encrypted email. Since there would be no reason for senders of sensitive info intended for .mil receivers, to have the key for an equivalent receiver at a .ml domain, the emails would just fail to send, stopping any leak before it happened.

What I donā€™t get, is why would anyone send any sensitive info unencrypted.

The one I have doesnā€™t fit through the strainer, Iā€™ll try to locate a thinner one, or some of those hair removal ziptie lookalikes (it likely isnā€™t hair stuck down there, but who knows).

Itā€™s and apartment, so that would require access from the common collector. It is possible, some neighbors did it (to locate a leak they caused by DIY ā€œre-tilingā€ the bathroom with a jackhammer, not kidding), but it takes a long snake to reach even the bottom floor.

For now at least it drains. Iā€™ll try and locate a thinner snake, or some of those ā€œhair removalā€ ziptie lookalikes.

Trying to fix a slow bathtub drain.

Itā€™s got one of those flexible ribbed pipes that keeps holding onto everything, and whoever installed the bathtub had the amazing idea of fully encasing it in brick and large tiles, with no access left to replace the pipe. To add insult to injury, the pipe is attached to the bathtub by a single screw going through a metal strainer, so no way to properly shove in a pipe cleaner without it coming detached and falling under the bathtubā€¦ inside the encased part; even if I managed to fish it out afterwards, no way itā€™s going to match the gasket again. The toilet is also so close to it, that even to try breaking the tile and brick to get to the pipe, one would have to remove the toilet first.

Iā€™ve poured in some ā€œgel drain cleanerā€, left it for a while, washed it out, and some plunger action seemed to move some stuff around, but it was still slow. Poured some caustic soda, which outgassed pretty nicely, and the plunger worked some more, but Iā€™d say itā€™s still less than 50% there.

Iā€™m torn as to what to try next, whether some HCl, bleach, or sulfuric, but the strainer is metal and I donā€™t want to make it look worse than it already does. Could try more of the gel and/or soda, but I think they mightā€™ve already done all they were to do.

Thatā€™s the reasoning behind an Universal Basic Income system: deciding who needs financial aid and who doesnā€™t, is more expensive than just giving everyone a fixed monthly payment and calling it a day.

That is, except for those who think nobody should get anything for free, and are trying to rip out the aid systems altogether.
