It was majority employee-owned before the acquisition but is now majority owned by private equity firm. I've noticed recently that my network speed isn't what I would expect from a 10Gb network. For reference, I have a Proxmox server and a TrueNAS server, both connected to my primary switch with DAC. I've tested the speed by transferring files from the NAS with SMB and by using OpenSpeedTest running on a VM in Proxmox....
Does anyone have recommendations for good VPS Linux hosting places? I used to recommend DigitalOcean, but I'm having a subpar support experience currently that sets off some slight alarm bells such that I might want to look elsewhere. What's good?
I was very happy with Vultr, but they weren’t happy with my Linux isos.
Using linode now, the backup system is more expensive and the emulated terminals don’t seem as nice as I remember vultr but I’m still very happy with it, especially for the price.
As I’m in the beginning steps of sorting out my homelab, I’m starting to ask questions I haven’t asked before and come across conundrums I hadn’t considered previously. One of which is how to sort out pi-hole given that my ISP has locked down the router tighter than a tight thing....
Be aware that some Reolink cameras (B800 for certain) require a reolink DVR. The alternative is neolink, a program that reverse engineers the protocol.
I recently bought my first house and I noticed some rot happening beside our garage door. It appears that when the cement driveway was poured, they got too close to the siding and now water is wicking up into the wood. I figure I can cut back the siding and replace it but how do I stop this from happening again?
I agree, just be careful with the caulk- sometimes you end up sealing liquid (or vapor) water IN instead of out. If you have good overhangs it’s probably fine but don’t do this below a window or other opening.
And for anyone wondering about concrete wicking water, look up ‘capillary break’

Just used spray foam for the first time...
It's on everything, my fingernails are glued to my skin underneath, I hate everything and most of all I hate spray foam....
