For those who watched DS9 during its first airings, did it seem odd to you that Vic Fontaine/James Darren sang entire songs in the later seasons of DS9?...
As much as I absolutely love DS9, I did not like the Vic Fontaine character. But, in general, I’m prejudiced against holodeck stuff, most of the time, because I felt Trek spent way too much time in the damn holodecks instead of exploring space.
At first, I didn’t really mind this character that much. But then they really started giving him more screen time as the show went on, and that just made me resent the character. I did not want to spend time in the holodeck when they could have spent that time on the Dominion war storyline or on more interesting characters (Sisko, Dukat, Kira, Kai Winn, etc).
DS9 is still one of the few Trek series that, overall, I truly enjoyed, but I skip the Fontaine scenes whenever I go back and watch episodes now.
LoglineA shuttle accident leads to Spock’s Vulcan DNA being removed by aliens, making him fully human and completely unprepared to face T’Pring’s family during an important ceremonial dinner....
I was disappointed they didn’t spend more time on the scene at the end where Spock reveals to T’pring’s mother that he was actually human while performing their precious ceremony. Really wanted to see him yank that Vulcan rose bush that woman had up her ass!
Yes, agreed. He seemed like a genuinely decent individual from the brief time he had on screen. But you could tell that even he was terrified of his wife’s behavior. Poor guy! Imagine being married to someone like his wife… 😱
Ooh! Maybe they could do an episode where comes back to get help from Pike, Spock, and T’pring because he’s looking to divorce that demon of a Vulcan wife?! Lol.

I’m with you on this. La’an is my fave character in this show so I was really looking forward to this episode. But after watching it, I felt it just wasn’t very good. I think, for me, it was mostly the writing, followed by the pacing, and the fact that while Kirk is my all-time fave Trek Captain… I just do not like the Kirk in this show. I just don’t find the actor they chose to be a suitable fit at all, unfortunately.
Still, the episode did have a few good moments, and it’s only 1 of only 2 episodes, so far, that I haven’t enjoyed with this series. So that’s still a good batting average.
Why did Vic Fontaine sang entire songs in the later seasons of DS9?
