"We are living in a highly sexualized society."

History would disagree. We're still living in a society shaped by Quaker beliefs about sex, children, and the human body in general.

It's telling that the article didn't interview anyone with expertise on the history of sex or people who study sex professionally (as academic scientists and researchers). Porn is definitely more easily viewed than ever before and that may be shaping kids views of sexuality but how is that shaping adult's views of sexuality? Why are kids special?

I'll tell you why kids are special: It's because it has become acceptable to assume that kids being exposed to sex of any kind is somehow "bad". Nowhere in the article do they talk about why it is that kids aren't learning about healthy sexual relationships: Because we hide that from them.

No one wants to talk to their kids about sex but if there's one thing you should tell kids (not just your own!) about porn it's this: It's fake

Weird shower leak. Advise needed. ( photofed.world )

We have a standing shower with a strange leak. It was built with a small tiled wall/step that the frame-less glass shower wall panel sits on. I noticed water pooling outside the door after a shower. At first I thought it was the door seal but upon closer inspection it is coming out of the grout. See pics (right where the arrow...

Redo the caulk at the edge of the glass frame. I’m 75% certain that’s where your problem lies… Had something similar 👍

Basically what’s happening is that water is getting out somewhere under that glass frame, going through the grout on the other side, then flowing out the side. The water could be entering all the way at the opposite end of where you see it coming out.

In fact, I’d re-caulk everything that has caulk. Don’t re-do the grout; that won’t fix anything. If re-caulking doesn’t fix it then you really do need to take the whole shower out and redo it (I know, “fuuuuuuck”). Been in that situation before too 😞

Wow: I always use red arrows with Spectacle but having seen these green ones I think I’m going to switch! 🔝🔚

PSA to those who use sunshine with KDE

Disable the systemd unit file I feel it just adds more troubleshooting. Use KDE's autostart for Sunshine.

If your sunshine is still broken, update the monitor to 0 in the web ui. Remember that monitor count will be different to some extent.

Use KMS until NVIDIA adds support to wayland for its NvFBC. It will take an eternity sadly. Enjoy!

And no, Steam client sucks in Wayland with all the flickering. That's the bad news

Sunshine‽ The KDE icon set from 22 years ago?

Talk about staying power!

I remember trying it out back then but it wasn’t for me (daaaaamn I feel old now).

Why are you so scared of conflict?

Great reply but… I was being facetious; making fun of the guy you were replying to 😁

Boebert is target of rivals at debate for new-to-her district in Colorado, where most Republican candidates debated last night have been arrested ( www.nytimes.com )

Seeking a better shot at victory, and after the “Beetlejuice” incident, Lauren Boebert is shifting districts for her 2024 run. Her fellow Republicans onstage reminded her of it repeatedly....

It’s fine to be proud of being arrested for doing something you believe in. Like getting arrested for sitting at a Woolworths counter to protest segregation.

It’s an entirely different thing to be proud that you got arrested for failing to show up in court or for drunk driving.

This is why I want to be a billionaire: So I can fly my private (electric, hopefully) jet to places like this and be like, “yes, I love KDE!” and hand over a great big check to this dedicated volunteer.

I’d have “my people” bring a mini red carpet and a fancy looking “FOSS is best” backdrop so I could get a photo op with this cool guy, shaking his hand and smiling at the camera while we both held up one of those over-sized fake checks showing the absurd amount of money he just earned by being awesome.

Texas Takes Attacks on Austin to New Level With “Death Star” Law ( slate.com )

The goal of Death Star is simple. The deeply conservative Texas Legislature wants to effectively deny cities—the state’s large Democratic-leaning cities, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin in particular—the ability to pass local laws and regulations in eight major policy areas: agriculture, business and commerce, finance,...

A quiet desk with your dog next to you or… soul-crushing commute and a noisy office?

Gee, I wonder why people are generally more productive at home?

How is “Business and Financial” not the #1 category? I work in finance and it’s so painfully obvious that for every employee that actually does real work on a day-to-day basis there’s at least 10 that don’t do anything at all. Not even, “this work is not meaningful.” I mean, they literally don’t do anything; they keep chairs warm and write emails explaining why everything isn’t their problem or they stare at every free slot in their calendar every Monday and find ways to micro manage the people that work under them (getting in the way of those people actually doing real work).

I see memes about construction crews where one guy is digging a ditch and there’s three other guys hanging back doing nothing and I can’t help but think, “that’s actually a pretty good ratio!”

Anyone who thinks “big government” is inefficient obviously never worked for a big bank. The regulators assigned to banks are far more on top of things and turn in vastly more real work than 90% of bank employees. In fact, nearly everything in banking and finance is fully automated (when it comes to moving money around, calculating interest, figuring out if someone can get a loan, etc) that at every quarterly shareholder meeting the only ideas that are ever shared in regards to “making more money” are about cutting costs by finding ways to “run leaner” (aka laying more people off).
