Probably because polling suggest many will vote for this idiot.

qooqie , to Politics in ‘Trump Knows What He’s Doing’: The Creator of Godwin’s Law Says the Hitler Comparison Is Apt

Godwin said in an interview. And in his view, Trump is actively seeking to evoke the parallel.

This is not something I had thought about but wouldn’t be surprised at this point

He constantly idolizes, dictators and autocrats. It’s not that big of a leap.

    ArbiterXero ,

I think this is the biggest point that somehow seems lost on the extremists.

Trump clearly and publicly praised MANY fascist dictators. Why do they either ignore or accept that?

I just struggle with the severe disconnect where their emotions allow them to ignore the reality in front of them. I struggle to fathom the dissonance required for that

They don’t ignore it. They like it.

    ArbiterXero ,

    I guess?

But they also claim to be really big on freedom.

    Though I guess it’s more “Freedom™️”

TLDR; Person who created Godwin's law:

The proper term is proto-fascist, but regardless I don’t think we should be allowing a klansman anywhere near the white house anyway.

In that case Trump would be eager to go to prison.

I take Trump at his word that he’s never read Mein Kampf. The joke in Nazi Germany was that Mein Kampf was like the bible, everybody had a copy, but nobody read it. I tried to read it once, it was impenetrable and made lots of references to Weimar politics that went over my head.

But this isn’t the defense Trump thinks it is. Either he’s been listening to someone influenced by Hitler (my pet theory), or he thinks in parallel with the Fuhrer.

Trump is nothing more than a 2 cent snake oil salesman. He accomplished nothing in his life and eventually the Epstein tapes will come out of him raping little girls. Hitler damn near took over the world. Trump did jack shit. He dreams of being revered at Hitlers magnitude. He is nothing.

if all goes well–by which i mean if the DEA doesn’t do something stupid–this should lead to marijuana being moved to schedule III (the same schedule category as anabolic steroids and ketamine) later this year.

ALostInquirer , to Politics in Gavin Newsom faces another recall threat in California

Are recalls possible in other US states, such that people could try to recall other governors?

    Nollij ,

Certainly some. But unless there’s been a massive change in circumstances or character (e.g. named in a criminal case, or turned against their supporters), you’re unlikely to get results. The same people that voted them into office would have to vote them out. This goes against the entire premise of the incumbent advantage.

SatanicNotMessianic , to Politics in Gavin Newsom faces another recall threat in California

Not all states support recalls. California kind of goes all in on the democracy thing with the ease of introducing ballot initiatives and recalls and such. It’s mostly fine, but it can also result in pretty stupid plays like this.

return2ozma OP , to Politics in Voters have real doubts about Kamala Harris as potential president, poll finds
    @return2ozma@lemmy.world avatar

The POLITICO/Morning consult poll reveals that only a third of voters think it’s likely Harris would win an election were she to become the Democratic nominee, and just three of five Democrats believe she would prevail. A quarter of independents think she would win.

The poll shows that Harris shares the same poor ratings as Biden. Both are well underwater, Biden at 43 percent favorable and 54 unfavorable, Harris at 42 percent favorable and 52 percent unfavorable.
