Here's an old usenet post where people are complaining that Sisko's presence was "forced" or "only there to be politically correct"..

Lots of "gems" in that thread, also sad how those "fans" totally still exist and are just as tone deaf.

'Politically correct' is what people used to say when they got called out for being awful human beings before 'woke' was invented.

This is an interesting comment, actually, because instead of hating on the new shows and comparing them to the old ones, Matt's hating on the old shows for being politically correct and saying DS9 and Voyager, the shows that were currently airing as of 1999, are the good ones. Even though DS9 was more diverse and less subtle about its themes, compared to TNG.

Imagine if Dave Cullen, Doomcock, Midnight's Edge, Nerdrotic, etc. dedicated their careers to saying that the new Star Trek shows were AWESOME because they were less woke than TNG and DS9. That's what this is.

This review was written like 2 years before the first ep of Enterprise aired, isn't it?

My guess is that they meant either TOS, or the starship Enterprise as compared to the space station DS9.

Oh wow, I'm glad you were able to attend - how was the crowd?

The theater itself was like 500 capacity but there was a lot less. Everyone was cool.

I went there too. I think you're underselling the transporter. They acted like you were about to get on like a motion sim or something, lined everybody up on those rows in front of the doors, then everything went black, sparkles coming from everywhere, a giant rush of wind upward is what it felt like - very confusing - and then BAM, the lights came on and you were on the bridge of the Enterprise-D.

Hell of an effect and something I'll never forget.

And Quark's bar man. It was so cool.
