Phone Link is Microsoft's late and closed source alternative to KDE Connect. It requires you sign in to a Microsoft Account for it to work.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/phone-link-requirements-and-setup-cd2a1ee7-75a7-66a6-9d4e-bf22e735f9e3

This means all the transactions between your phone and your PC are monitored and sucked up by Microsoft.

Wasn't MS "Your phone" available for 5+ years? I mean, I know KDE connect is since 10+ years, but how is this news? Change of naming?

Here's the thing: firstly, There are people who don't know things you do. if you already knew about this, this post is not for you. It's for the people who were not aware of the dangers of using Microsoft's alternative.

Secondly: KDE is not a news agency. Their main mission is to inform, sometimes of stuff that is old, but persevering in time, and often their posts will not cover the headlines of the day. But that doesn't matter, because they are not a news agency.

    @phoenix Regarding the assumed operating life of devices:

    "For the purposes of our assessment, years of use, which are based on first owners, are modeled to be four years for macOS and tvOS devices and three years for iOS and watchOS devices. Most Apple products last longer and are passed along, resold, or returned to Apple by the first owner for others to use."

    Hope that helps!

    Thank you, that sheds some light onto it, yes. I'm still wondering how this number marches up. Just using the device by far uses not even comparable amount of energy than e.g. the production and then it also depends if you use green energy or a diesel generator in your backyard.

    Not sure how to read this.

    So let me get this straight: The so-called "originalists" on the Supreme Court have essentially given the U.S. president the power of monarchs. Just days before the 4th of July, mind you. The hypocrisy is staggering.

    olibeezoo ,
    @olibeezoo@sfba.social avatar

    @rbreich I can only dissent with my vote and voice but I too dissent. In November you choose between a President or a King. It is simply that existential. If you vote for a President you can vote them out in four years. If you vote for a King (or abstain from voting) you will never get the chance to elect another President again.

    Do you protect the United States Constitution millions of Americans died to protect or do you throw away the Bill of Rights?

    jazaval ,
    @jazaval@mastodon.social avatar

    @rbreich I think the big issue with monarchs was an unelected leader with no term limits, not legal immunity.

    Panic is irrational. Be rational and find a good and competent replacement, preferably a female, who could possibly generate a bipartisan landslide by being able to personally address the range of issues with women’ health and men as experts at solving them.

    SCOTUS has ruled that presidents are essentially monarchs who can commit crimes, bribery is legal, federal regulatory agencies have no authority to keep us safe, and homeless people can be punished for being homeless.

    Is it any wonder why public approval of this court is so low?

    That is not how KDE works. KDE is not a company and it doesn't absorb or embrace other projects. If you have a project you would like to develop using the advantages afforded by KDE, you can put it through the incubation process and then, when it passes, work on it yourself. The other KDE contributors that join you (if they join you), do so under their own steam. There is no management telling people where to go or what to work on, so if you stop working on your own project and have been unable to attract other contributors, development will stop.

    One of the richest men in the 1920s was Andrew Mellon — an early prophet of trickle-down economics.

    Yesterday we learned that his grandson, Timothy Mellon, gave a Trump super PAC one of the largest political donations ever.

    This is how dynastic wealth works.
