I can't believe I even have to say this, but it is not normal that the Supreme Court is taking its sweet time to decide if the president can incite an insurrection to overturn an election and maintain power. This should have been decided already. The answer is no!

@rbreich they do realize that if they say "yes" it means that democrats could do it to stay in power indefinitely, right?

@rbreich SCOTUS is aiding and abetting a criminal and a traitor. There is a traitor sitting on the bench and is married to a conspirator.

Remember how the GOP used to rail against "activist judges legislating from the bench?"
Anyway, keep bringing up Nixon.

@rbreich they are running legal interference for him, slow walking us to fascism, otherwise we discover they were complicit in 1/6, at least Thomas, alito is a sympathizer, and the 3 amigos are drunk with power after roe wade reversal

@rbreich Natural extension of Nixon's pardon and Iran-Contra getting whitewashed to name but two steps on the path here?

Surely this is realpolitik?

Concepts like the spirit of republicanism, or civic-mindedness, or even institutionalised culture such as rule-of-law fall away when confronted by the exercise of power - by those who hold it and have the will to exercise it.

Perhaps it's only abnormal in that it dispenses with the appearance of propriety and cloak of discretion.

@rbreich Right, right...but what if it's your guy. That makes it ok. Right?

@rbreich well to clarify, most members of the Supreme Court think it’s OK as long as the president is of their political party. Clearly it’s not OK for the other political party’s president.

@rbreich
The puppet majority are doing what they did for Bush; they’re working for the party and their filthy rich benefactors.

The ultra right # fascists on have sold the court to the highest bidder.

@rbreich well you see it's a hard question. Did the constitution intend for the president to be entirely unaccountable and above the law? Let's all think about what the founding generation might have said for a few weeks.
