@rbreich it would be wholly unacceptable for someone to pay for supplies for their job at any other job.
Plenty of companies buy office supplies in bulk. There is no reason why districts couldn’t do that.
In Oklahoma, the lege was all pleased with themselves a few years back when they decided that teachers could deduct the cost of classroom supplies from their income at tax time.
My sister-in-law is a teacher and one of the things she said was instead of the usual Christmas present (small towns) it would be more useful to give kleenex, or school supplies to given as needed and used for the class she was teaching instead.
Near as I can discern from the written record, greedy people abusing their power while the poor and disenfranchised are abused or outright enslaved has been going on as long as humans have been documenting their actions.
Happy endings seem to be reserved exclusively for fairy tales and fiction. Reality is a never ending up hill battle for the downtrodden.
