In a misguided effort to be "unbiased," most news media have stopped calling Trump's Big Lie about the 2020 election what it is. Instead they're using terms like "false statements" or "claims without evidence."
Memo to the media: Calling out lies isn't "biased." It's your job.
@rbreich They're also soft pedaling lies as "unsupported facts."
Are they afraid of calling him a liar? That he lies?
Everyone knows he does, it's so rampant that everyone assumes he's lying every time he opens his mouth.
The media are cowards and they're complicit in this whole mess. They covered him as a normal candidate and look at what happened.
He's mentally ill, a convicted felon and a unrepentant liar.
Unfit to serve soda or popcorn at a movie concession, let alone as POTUS!
@rbreich! The Media has failed, and will continue to fail, America for $$$ . Big Time. They appear to be vying to become Trump State Media outlets when he takes them over. #Politics
It was the GOP that ended the media Fairness Doctrine. The weird little bottoms have been BEGGING for a proper spanking. Just give it to them and maybe they'll finally be able to get off and it will solve all their hate and bitterness. After 30 years of idiotgasm-denial I say it's worth trying!
"Some say that journalists should strive to be “neutral”
...journalists should strive to be truthful...
Stating a truth that will be used to determine someone’s guilt or innocence is rarely a “neutral” act, but it is a necessary one.
When remaining “neutral” is used as an excuse to avoid stating uncomfortable truths — truths that might offend the powerful or the public — that is not journalism.
@rbreich I do see where they are coming from avoiding the word “lie.” Lie denotes they know Trump et al. are making the claims while knowing they are untrue. It’s hard to prove what someone does or doesn’t know. “Claims without evidence” strikes a reasonable balance to me.
