While I agree that Seattle should not cut its own spending on police to pay for housing in Tukwila and this is a county/state issue, her kneejerk reaction does not inspire confidence. These kinds of protests have been common in Seattle politics as far back as I can remember.
As one of her constituents, I hope she learns from her mistakes here.
Pretty much exactly my thoughts. It doesn’t make sense for protestors to demand Seattle fund housing in a different city. But this quote:
“It is not appropriate” for protesters to be disruptive, Moore, a former King County Superior Court judge, continued. “We need to make sure that this does not happen going forward. We are shutting down the operations of a democracy because of a mob action. It is not to be tolerated.”
That just seems intentionally obtuse. The entire point of a protest is to be disruptive so that someone pays attention to their demands. In this case they just seem a little mis-directed. So let them speak then say “I appreciate your concerns, but you’re talking to the wrong people. Here’s what you should do instead…”
Numerous Whidbey island day trips, probably some up to San Juan as well. Later in the summer the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire is going on, so at least one weekend trip (more if my wife gets her way). Hikes out in the mountains with friends and my doggo (check out wta.org). Depending on weather/wildfire smoke and available spots, probably some camping in various state parks.
Local stuff - the zoo concert series sounded cool, checking out some McMenamins to get MORE STAMPS, trying out some new restaurants or brewpubs in Ballard/Fremont, and trying to find a new DnD tabletop crew for in person gaming.
That sounds like the makings of a great summer! When you’re staying on Orcas, make sure to visit The Barnacle for drinks. My favorite bar on the island. For breakfast, check out Doe Bay for their cinnamon rolls — only served on the weekends. For dinner check out Houlme. You’ll want a reservation and make sure to order one of their pizzas. Other good restaurants are Monti and Matia. Enjoy!
I have no plans for summer yet, but I expect I’ll be doing a few barbecues with friends and acquaintances.
