That depends! You can run an instance on an old PC for just yourself and some friends for next to nothing, but a bigger instance with lots of traffic can easily climb to hundreds per month or more. No idea where we’ll end up when things slow down, but the subreddits this server represent currently have more users than the entire Lemmy-verse 😅
I’m just trying to get a rough idea of the order of magnitude. Has this instance exceeded “old PC” (For discussion’s sake, an 8 core i7-9700k with 32 gigabytes of RAM) yet?
Your definition of “old pc” is much nicer than mine. No we’re not there yet! But likely within the next few months. Lemmy.world recently made this post which you may find educational.
With Threshold I always was mildly impressed with how they made a point that evolution doesn’t necessarily mean that a species will become super advanced somehow. That they evolved “in-place” instead of over generations is still a pretty bonkers misunderstanding of evolution that they always fall for, but I guess watching them turn into lizards over the next several decades probably wouldn’t make the best TV lol
Well done, that’s quite a commitment. I watched a lot of trek as it aired, but I’ve still not quite seen all of TOS or ENT - and I’ve skipped out on the Kelvin films after 2009.
The most surprising one I think has been Prodigy; I didn’t expect it to be as compelling as it ended up being.
Tilly was my least favorite character. I never bought her as anything more than an ensign. The fact that she went from an ensign with self esteem issues to a top officer within like a year is awful writing
Edit: funny that a star trek sub is so intolerant and doesn't allow wrong think
They will never make another thoughtful, dialog heavy, diplomacy and reason focused Star Trek series. The mass audience won't go to see it if there aren't lots of explosions and personal drama and that's the audience they want.
What exactly makes you think that? Strange New Worlds has very little action, and is loved by fans as far as I can tell. Yes, it has "personal drama", but Star Trek always had that and it's not a bad thing.
The thing is they've almost gone too far to satirize. I don't really blame people for falling for it considering there are folks with paintings of TFG pasted on Rambo's body seriously hanging in their houses (and in at least one case that I'm aware of, their bar where RATM gets played pretty regularly).
