Yeah. soon we're going to have SNW and Prodigy? That's not so bad, I guess. I'll miss LD…

Dr. Pulaski Appreciation Post ( startrek.website )

I don't know whether it's a popular opinion or not, but I think Dr. Pulaski was a great character and I found her much more interesting than Dr. Crusher. I don't know if it was down to the writing or the performance but Pulaski is one of the best parts of season 2 and I would have been happy to see her character continue....

cybervseas ,

True. But did you see Diana Muldaur's appearance in TOS? She's a classic beauty 👀

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Discovery | 5x07 "Erigah"

LoglineWith Moll and L’ak finally in custody, the Federation is pulled into a diplomatic and ethical firestorm when the Breen arrive and demand they be handed over. Meanwhile, a frustrated Book looks for ways to help as Tilly, Adira, and Reno work to decipher the latest clue....

cybervseas ,

I wonder what Culber will think of bringing more people back from the dead other than himself.

Maybe using it to revive L'ak will exhaust the progenitor tech, so they can totally neatly wrap up this season's McGuffin.

cybervseas ,

I'd say TOS was very very light on "personal drama", which really ramped up from TNG onwards.

cybervseas ,

What a total miss. Picard needed a tea blend and they should have launched with Janeway’s coffee.

I’m. I. Why??

cybervseas ,

I’m puzzled as to what more story they would have told had they been renewed. Not saying the show was bad, rather asking where would they have gone from here? When you’ve upgraded to moving anywhere in the galaxy instantaneously, you’ve traveled into the far future, rebuilt the federation, and you’ve conversed with aliens living outside of the galaxy, there isn’t much “boldly going” left in the formula.

Kind of like when all the characters in an anime get too powerful (DBZ), and it gets boring because you can’t raise the stakes any further.

cybervseas ,

If they had ever somehow transitioned into a more episodic format, I think that would have been a lot of fun.

ETA: and yes more former Federation planets arguing over their politics, it gives me life.

cybervseas ,

Indeed, I’d like to report a theft. My heart was stolen!

cybervseas ,

Maybe we should edit everything out except the speeches. Speeches are very Star Trek 🙂

Knights among toner cartridges ( infosec.pub )

(Business people) speaking a language familiar and dear to them. Its portentous nouns and verbs invest ordinary events with high adventure; executives walk among toner cartridges, caparisoned like knights. We should tolerate them - every person of spirit wants to ride a white horse. -William Strunk Jr. (The Elements of Style)

Even low cube walls would be great compared to all the “open floorplans” I’ve been in the last few years.

cybervseas ,

The charitable explanation is HR knows they’d need it eventually if you do join up, so might as well as for everything now since they definitely need to know your state of residence. Also some companies send swag and other stuff to prospective hires.

Your explanation is more likely.

cybervseas ,

You could also control the Nanoleaf panels to get them to flicker when you’re taking damage

cybervseas ,

That looks awesome. I work in tech and having Starfleet engineers on my desk would be fun.

cybervseas ,

Pike’s hair can get anyone into Star Trek.

cybervseas ,

Bittersweet memories, and not being what you need right now clouds the message compared to other songs on here.

cybervseas ,

It’s the first Star Trek show my nephew really got into. There’s a chance here.

cybervseas ,

I pleaded and got Star Trek: A Final Unity for my birthday one year. Even on my ancient Mac it was amazing. Like playing an episode of TNG.

No one said the replicator can perfectly create the most delightful and exquisite flavors and aromas associated with the real thing. Also the bar is like a real bar in a way, you’re not paying for just the food/drink but also the atmosphere.

Also also it’s a Bajoran station, so maybe Quark has to pay an energy bill even for using the drinks replicator.

Also also also Quark makes the point that he had programmed the drinks replicator to be even better than a regular one, so you’re also paying for that.

cybervseas ,

I’m pretty sure that’s the episode where Quark becomes an arms dealer.

Which also has Avery Brooks’s creepiest line in the series; the way he says “Works for me!” gives me chills. Serial killer vibes.

Aldebaran Whisky?

cybervseas ,

Well gold is famously nonreactive and doesn’t tarnish. Plus it looks good.

Do it and then join us on the Risa community. We have a nice time.

    cybervseas ,

Parents’ dogs seem appropriately reserved by comparison.

    cybervseas ,

Watching right now and that voice is super recognizable! Jetrel’s actor also played Dr. Mora on DS9! The Bajoran doctor that experimented on Odo when no one knew what he was.

    cybervseas ,

Yeah convenient for the plot but completely illogical. I mean the Borg showing up was fine with transwarp conduits, but it never made any sense how the same baddies showed up all the time. I’m looking at you, Seska.

    cybervseas ,

Yeah that’s pretty gross. At work we did a personality type test and I scored the highest for being motivated by external rewards (i.e. money) and yeah you bet I am! I think we handled it well in our discussion sessions by making it clear that there is no “better” or “worse” things to be motivated by.

But yeah if I do a good job, give me stuff! It works every time ;-)

    cybervseas ,

As Chekhov it was like yeah okay I get what they were going for. But as Bester he really stole every episode of B5 he was in. Bravo, Walter. I wish more folks gave B5 a chance. Looking at you, sis 👀

    M*A*S*H in space?

I know a strictly military-focused show goes against Roddenberry’s vision, but what are the chances that we could see some sort of war-focused Trek in the future? The scenes in “Under the Cloak of War” (SNW 2x08… yes I’m a few weeks behind) fascinated me. What would a MAS*H-style show look like in Trek? Could the show...

    cybervseas ,

Kind of sounds like the Maquis. Or maybe the Cardassian War in general.

    cybervseas ,

It was cute how Sam was vibing to it, too.

Picard had a face like that. I think he mostly used it with diplomats.

    cybervseas ,

Those back claws are ready to disembowel. Watch out!

When I watched it, it looked like Uhura was so eager to fix the situation that she yelled to fire the torpedos, but I noticed right after she said if that Pike gave a nod to the crewman to approve the order. Uhura was just a little excited.

    cybervseas ,

Oh man that episode was about hydrogen (deuterium) too. They couldn’t even change the element for this one.

    cybervseas ,

Good for Ethan Peck. It’s like when Brent Spiner got to play Lore or Doctor Soong and express himself through other characters. Human Spock is basically another character. It would be nice to see him again some day.

    cybervseas ,

It’s certainly bombastic. I think after the disco TOS theme, they really wanted to point out how different and grand TNG will be. Even the words, changing from “its five year mission” to “it’s continuing mission” are meant to impress the viewer with the sense of scale.

    cybervseas ,

Wait what’s this? Star Trek writers can still create a time travel story that wraps up in an episode (or two) instead of lasting a whole 10 episodes of nothing?!

And they can weave in minor plot points from previous episodes to give it continuity without feeling forced?

    How can this be?

    cybervseas ,

She was discount Camina Drummer for me at first. Now I see her as her own character with a lot of potential.

    cybervseas ,

Yes I was thinking the same thing, like “Lady you’re acknowledging how difficult this is to bear, could you offer like 6 free therapy sessions at least?”

    cybervseas ,

There’s the episode where he takes over the ship (hardcoded command from Dr. Soong) which really highlights how powerful he is.

    cybervseas ,

If all the TV shows are in the same universe, I wonder how they allowed Data to join at all after the debacle that was Control.
