Yes, allegedly $1 billion per year over the next fifteen years plus $500 million for the tolling infrastructure. However, the MTA board could override the governor if they really need the money.

CrimeDad ,

I think you should just give the longer blades a try.

CrimeDad OP ,

Small world, indeed! I never considered that any of my neighbors would have even heard of Lemmy. Thank you for the compliment on the house; it really deserves a little more TLC from me in the front. The deer are definitely a problem, but I just assumed the arborvitae were growing like that because I never bothered to prune them.

CrimeDad ,

PornHub pulls out on (Cream )Pi(e) Day? We used to be a country.

CrimeDad ,

Can you just snake some new wire and not tear out the old wire? Not sure if legal or kosher, but it might save some time and effort.

CrimeDad ,

My ass is feeling better already having read this post.

CrimeDad OP ,

Kind of wild that they were ever on the market in the first place.

CrimeDad OP ,

I’m sure the risk presented by a couple of CFLs to just me is pretty small, but all together it seems like a significant problem for everyone.

CrimeDad OP ,

Not especially, why?

CrimeDad ,

What they wrote was fine. Israel hawks are sick in the head.

CrimeDad ,

I almost did, but it occurred to me that I’m not sure what Zionism really means. I suppose some people sincerely believe in it, but is it fair for the term to include people who are just in it for the real estate, people who just use it as a political cudgel, or Christian evangelical doomsayers? Furthermore, there have to be a few Zionists who would acquiesce to Palestinian demands or disagree that it should be in Palestine, right?

CrimeDad ,

How loud is yours? I’ve got one that I avoid using because it’s too loud, much more than a regular window unit. It doesn’t sound broken, so I’m wondering if mine is just a bad model or if it’s a common trait.

CrimeDad OP ,

I know what you mean, but I don’t think I really got any of that this time fortunately.

CrimeDad OP ,

Lol we had the windows open so it was the chilly weather that reminded me this morning.

Retailer Target says it's closing 9 stores due to theft. The crime data tells a different story. ( web.archive.org )

Popular Information analyzed publicly available crime data for the stores Target is closing in New York and San Francisco. This data reveals that stores that are being closed have lower levels of theft than nearby stores that have remained open. An analysis of the stores Target is shuttering in the Seattle area follows a similar...

CrimeDad ,

Unless Target decides to share more data, the article correctly points out that the publicly available crime data goes against their claims. It also points out that shrinkage reporting from Target and other retailers also doesn’t support the narrative that shoplifting is a bigger problem than ever. It’s apparently an excuse for retailers underperforming for other reasons (that might be less tolerable to shareholders or less spectacular to “news” consumers). I don’t understand what you don’t like about the article.

CrimeDad ,

Target is the one making the claims and closing the stores. And they have the data. It’s on the them to explain the discrepancy. I don’t think the differences in the sizes of the stores potentially offers an explanation. It seems more indicative of a flawed business plan, that they’re having trouble making smaller stores work even in lower crime areas.

As for shrinkage, it hasn’t doubled, at least not recently. I think the article references an increase of 9% or $0.13 over the past few years. If they were getting $3.00 profit of every $100.00 in sales and that increase in shrinkage was not made up for at all, it would mean that Target would have only missed 0.39¢ of profit, or 0.13%. Besides, shrinkage isn’t just outright shoplifting as the article explains. It also includes employees helping themselves, which they might be more likely to do the more their employer takes advantage of them. In other words, some of that shrinkage might actually be made up for by increased productivity. The employees are just giving themselves little unauthorized bonuses when they can.

CrimeDad ,

It’s too bad someone had to get shot, but on balance I think this was a good outcome. There has to be the potential for serious consequences for being annoying and disrespectful of people’s personal space, especially if it’s for creating content.

CrimeDad ,

That’s work.

CrimeDad ,

Afaik it’s just a way to invite a sales call. @dingus, just get an inexpensive water test kit from Amazon or wherever. Also, you should be able to get water quality reports and other information about your water supply from the municipality.

CrimeDad OP ,

I’ll check again, but I don’t think those are removable plugs.

CrimeDad OP ,

You are correct, they are plugs, but two of them are glued in place. The other two, the ones closer to the rear, are removable. They’re not at the lowest point so in order to drain the trunk completely, you have to park on an incline apparently.

CrimeDad ,

Nice work! Is there a reason for not connecting the exhaust back to the chimney like before?

CrimeDad ,

Ah okay, that makes sense.

CrimeDad OP ,

I’m hoping to hold off on buying any new kitchen appliances until we renovate the kitchen, but who knows when we’ll get to that. The racks in this dishwasher definitely aren’t going to make it.

CrimeDad OP ,

Any idea if the term “contract grade” is related?

CrimeDad OP ,

Yes, I think I used them the first time I replaced the gaskets, and to fix my washer and dryer.

crimedad , to Home Improvement

Anyone else have trouble with these GE dishwashing machines?

Mine cleans dishes well enough, but the gaskets leak easier than any other dishwasher I've ever had. I replaced the gaskets a few months ago, but if a little bit of debris builds up then it's leaking again. Also, the racks are badly corroded, but the machine is only maybe five years old. Anyway, it's just kind of funny that my aunt is coming over tomorrow and the last time she was here she noticed the dishwasher was leaking.

@homeimprovement

CrimeDad ,

In our old house we had a wonderful Kenmore refrigerator that was actually manufactured by LG.

CrimeDad ,

It’s a little bit old and worn out, but I still like it.

CrimeDad ,

I buy the nice dishwasher pods and always run on heavy mode with temperature boost. It gets the dishes clean, but I’m wondering if it’s causing extra wear and tear, especially to the racks.

CrimeDad ,

Whenever this happened to me I’m pretty sure that a utensil was blocking the detergent door from opening.
