There certainly is middle ground on those policies. The US had the Brady Act but still allowed people to own firearms. Most people favor access to abortion with some term restrictions. It's disingenuous to say there isn't a middle ground, particularly when most things in life are a compromise. Moreover, we disenfranchise a lot of people when we say that something is either black or white.

Regardless of what you may think of Lieberman, McCain, Murkowski, Sinema or Manchin, these are the folks that are willing to cross over to the other side of the aisle and make those compromises. They are the big tent people. Why do you think they are villainized in the media? Particularly because they don't fit neatly into one pigeonhole or the other, and more particularly because it's a great ad seller.

We have got to stop thinking we're Republican or Democrat, we shouldn't be aligned to one party at all. We should be voting on the issues of the day, the candidate's platforms and our representatives voting records. Aligning to one party is a poor proxy and it's a cop-out of civic responsibility.

Inflation is plummeting across America except in Ron DeSantis’ Florida ( www.alternet.org )

Americans learned Wednesday morning the rate of inflation nationally has dropped dramatically, to just 3% annually, down from over 9% one year ago.But not in Florida, which MarketWatch reports “has the highest inflation in the U.S.”For much of the year, even before his presidential campaign official...

Marketwatch notes that “the rate of inflation in the Tampa Bay region was the highest in the country. Prices rose an estimated 7.3% from June 2022 to June 2023, well above the 3% rate for the nation as a whole.”
Last month as well, inflation was huge across much of Florida.
“Residents in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area saw prices shoot up 9% in May compared with a year earlier. By comparison, nationwide inflation for the same period was less than half that rate, with prices rising 4% in May compared with a year earlier,” CBS News reported on Tuesday. “People living in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area have it slightly easier, with inflation rising at a 7.3% annual pace, but that’s still much higher than the U.S. as a whole.”
Why?
“Florida’s inflation rates are skyrocketing and the state now leads the nation thanks mostly to the rising cost of housing,” NBC Miami reports Wednesday.
In fact, many reports point to housing prices, which shot up 55% in Florida since the start of the pandemic, compared to 40% nationwide, CBS noted.

Ignoring real issues to scapegoat minorities and fight a culture war that alienates migrant labor and discourages business investment? Destroying his state's economy to throw off the national curve and own the libs? Either way, bold move, Cotton. How's that working out?

Among GOP voters, DeSantis is now at just 17%, which matches his all-time low says Morning Consult. He “is losing ground to Biden: DeSantis trails Biden by 5 percentage points in a hypothetical general election match-up, and hasn’t outperformed the incumbent since March.” source

Oh, I see.

Dechert continued to scream wildly about the climate change “scam” while Haden-Guest peppered him with verbal volleys from across the table, calling him variously “f–king insane” and “insignificant.”

"The so-called party of ‘family values’ has just contributed to erosion of the institution of marriage in Florida,”

Said the divorced woman...

Also note that many of these women were in favour of the bill until it was signed and they found out it was retroactive.

I'm pretty sure this was done to freak out the legislation and force them to remove the partial veto

The left must embrace law and order | Slavoj Zizek ( www.newstatesman.com )

In a world of role-reversal, it would perhaps make the most sense to embrace the 21st century where the leftwing no longer seems to be the rude, vulgar, authentic force and instead insist that law and order is threatened by right wing terrorism as it bit by bit seeks to cast us into chaos on every front....

CloudsGotInTheWay ,

I think most everyone wants and accepts the needs for law and order. That being said - I think it's fair to have skepticism for those shouting for law and order solely to protect their status-quo -> a system rigged to benefit the few and of privilege.

Col3814444 ,

Seem more these days the right get to do what they want “legally” by corrupting and perverting justice, while the left are told to just follow “law and order” and accept what we are told.

tillimarleen ,

I think it’s weird. It’s a good analysis, but the last two paragraphs imagining the left’s response, sounds as if it’s written by somebody else. While the obvious conclusion is, that the left needs a new platform, he sounds as if he wanted to give the liberal political left an excuse for more law and order propaganda.
