No. The story would revolve around an intergalactic war started over a teenage girl’s feet.

KISSmyOS ,

I can imagine you going *"Why didn’t they just hit [Esc] to bypass the password prompt, open a DOS prompt and delete the password files in C:\Windows.pwl?"

(Yes, that was actually a thing you could do on early 90’s Windows 3.0)

KISSmyOS ,

Not if you activated a BIOS password which blocks booting from USB (and can’t be reset by jumpers or removing the CMOS battery on modern motherboards), or Bitlocker which blocks copying cmd.exe over the accessibility options.

Without considering this, most people wouldn’t be able to drive anywhere they haven’t been before anymore.

Shortcomings and regressions in Plasma 6 wayland for artists using and configuring graphic tablets

While cutting edge testing distribution such as Fedora are going Wayland only and the proponents of such move say that this push is required to shake things out. I would like to highlight some of the things which are not there yet on the graphic tablet configuration front on plasma wayland. Although the basic support for the...

they are also not providing any fallback for people hit by those bugs.

The fallback is announcing this in the release notes, so users depending on removed features can wait with the upgrade until the issues are fixed or move to another distro.
Backwards compatibility is nice and all, but at some point you’ll have to break things or you’ll end up like Windows, where the current version still includes user-visible GUI elements released 33 years ago.

Why do many microwave ovens hum in an interval of a minor 7th?

Something that I’ve noticed across most of the microwave ovens that I’ve used is that when they hum while cooking food, I can pick out 2 distinct tones. One of them is pretty clearly 60 120 hz, the 2nd harmonic of the AC power frequency. The other is consistently a minor 7th above that (which would be somewhere around...

30s-1min in a microwave will make old bread soft again
30s will melt cheese
other than that, I use it for reheating food and heating up spiced wine.

If you lean a ladder against a wall, only a small part of your weight pushes against the wall horizontally, most weight is still directed towards the ground. You can roughly estimate how much of your weight will push against the wall:
with a vertical ladder it would be 0.
with a ladder put up in a 45 degree angle it would be ~50% (actually less).
Your angle will be somewhere in between.

My guess is any wall can handle this, otherwise it would fall if you lean on it. But no one can tell you for sure without inspecting it.

KISSmyOS ,

you can demonstrate this by standing at the top, holding on tightly, and pushing on the wall to see how hard you have to push to move the top of the ladder away from the wall a little.

Yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and just not do that.

KISSmyOS OP ,

Thank you very much for the input. I did not expect to have my questions/gripes answered by one of the devs!

And without YaST, you can set GRUB_TIMEOUT=0 in /etc/default/grub, then run update-bootloader or grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg as root.
It’s just one of the things I noticed.

KISSmyOS ,

They’re repos maintained by a single person, and official documentation tells you to avoid them, cause their purpose is to be a place where maintainers can break unimportant stuff.
If something is only available through community repos, the official way forward would be to submit a bug report to OpenSUSE, asking to include the package in the official repo, or to contact the maintainer and ask them to do it.

I’d keep use of community repos to a minimum and prefer first flatpak, then the experimental repo over them. No one but the maintainer themselves checks or tests the community repos for stability and compatibility.
But I’ve activated one community repo for a package that wasn’t available anywhere else (sane-airscan).

My stance on photography is “the best camera is the one you have with you”.
On the other hand, I don’t find taking pictures with a phone to be particularly engaging.

Personally I love film cameras most. Focussing by rotating the lens, the sound of the mirror slap, winding the film with a lever, and the moment when you get to see how your pics turned out days later are more than half the fun for me.

Happened to me last Tuesday and I’m still alive.
But I admit I got lucky with the angle, and the cats.
