Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

The TNG Technical Manual is practically a necessity.

I have most of the Discovery and Picard tie-ins. They’re generally pretty good - the one I wouldn’t necessarily recommend is “The Way to the Stars”, which is about Tilly when she was sixteen. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it reads like a book for teenage girls, and I am…not that. My favourite of the bunch is probably the Picard prequel “The Last Best Hope”, which I really enjoyed.

In terms of older stuff, I have a good chunk of the New Frontier series, but fell away from it over time. The four-part Dominion War series from the 90s is interesting, but I would only recommend the TNG instalments, as the DS9 ones are just novelizations of a few episodes.

I also remember owning and reading "Best Destiny, but I really don’t remember it.

Ah shoot, I completely forgot about Planet X! Yeah, that’s a fun bit of goofiness.

The cover of “Dead Endless” is a little deceiving - it’s really a Culber story, as it covers what happened to him while he was trapped in the mycelial plane after being murdered by Voq. Obviously, that also means Stamets is featured pretty heavily, but…well, it’s not what you would expect. In a good way, I think.

It’s actually been a pretty good year for non-mobile Star Trek games, between this, Resurgence, and the Prodigy game, all while STO lumbers on.

Those FE Masterworks models are…not for regular people.

It’s a standalone game built with the same engine.

A tragic tale, told in the most overwrought way imaginable.

Worf was always pretty stiff and formal when speaking, but he was also pretty direct and to-the-point.

The very Short Treks will feature previously announced fan-favorite characters voiced by cast members from across the Star Trek universe, including icons Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, Doug Jones as Saru and Armin Shimerman as Quark, and a new line-up of exciting voices, including Ethan Peck as Spock, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Connor Trinneer as Trip Tucker, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, Noël Wells as Tendi and the legendary George Takei as Sulu.

There are a couple of nice surprises on that list.

I refuse to accept that, and will only ever refer to the very Short Treks when debating the finer points of Star Trek.

I really don’t think the inclusion of Kirk should be considered a “gimmick”. There was no stunt-casting, nor were the episodes in which he appeared particularly gimmicky (well, okay, “Subspace Rhapsody” was a gimmick episode, but in a way that wasn’t structured around Kirk specifically).

Like it or hate it, it’s clear to me that the producers are including Kirk because they think it’s worth exploring the character at this point in his career. I wouldn’t call that a gimmick.

If the news is to be believed, somewhere between slim and none.

I’ve never thought it was that bad - I haven’t given them any money in years though I do get a small monthly credit through my lifetime subscription.

They’ve really embraced mega bundles over the last few years, though - if anything, I’d call it macrotransaction hell.

It was the 60s - buttholes looked different back then.

Reminder: constructive criticism is specific, clear, descriptive, and not framed in such a way as to shame those who like something that you don’t.

User flair is unfortunately not a thing on Lemmy, but this is as good a time as any to confirm that we have independently verified that OP is Aaron J. Waltke, writer/producer of Star Trek: Prodigy.

Paramount+, the streamer, doesn’t want it on their platform, for whatever reason.

CBS Studios, the production house, wants to sell it to a different platform.

They’re both subsidiaries of Paramount Global, but they have different priorities.

Who…who would you expect to invite you to a Paramount event?
