Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

The Paramount press site is…not as reliable as you would think. It’s not uncommon for sites like Trekmovie to run episode previews that obviously came from press releases, while the actual Paramount site lags behind by a day or two.

How Many Star Trek Episodes Pass the Bechdel Test? (TOS to ENT) | The Mary Sue ( www.themarysue.com )

I found this after reading and responding to this post here about early Trek fans’ prejudicial negative reaction to TNG. One of my responses (see here) was to point out that any fans of the progressiveness of Trek ought to have been mindful of the room for improvement over TOS, with female representation being an obvious...

In the original Stephen King novella, Morgan Freeman’s character is a white Irish guy. I look forward to hearing all about your newfound hatred of this forced diversity.

Always nice to see a STO ship get some love.

Needs more detached-nacelle, 32nd Century action, though.

Well it truly looks terrific!

I keep thinking about a series that’s part of a franchise being cancelled and sold to another “network,” and how rare that is…when was the last time that happened?

Has it happened since BtVS and Angel got split across UPN and The WB?

Several the officers on the planet are wearing excursion jackets, and we get close up enough on Batel to see that the patch on her shoulder reads “USS Enterprise”.

Fake it 'til you make it!

New AMT model kits coming - SNW Enterprise, Cerritos ( www.culttvmanshop.com )

While my preference isn’t to link to a vendor site, Round 2 (AMT’s parent) doesn’t seem to be posting these forthcoming releases on their own website yet. (Hope this is cool with community rules.) This vendor apparently saw these at a fair and booked supply. Credit to them for getting the information up....

The more I think about the Chapel plot, the more I think it was a blunder.

If she survived the initial attack on the Cayuga, it’s likely that others did, too - at the very least, it should give Spock a reason to look before hot-dropping the saucer onto the planet.

ValueSubtracted OP ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I’m fine with Chapel being stuck there - I think the tension comes from the overall Spock/Chapel emotional arc, rather than wondering whether she will survive - but the sequence practically demands a second scan with the newfangled tricorders to verify that there are no other life signs on the ship.

ValueSubtracted OP ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

The anti-Gorn tricorders seemed to cut through the interference on the surface well enough.

ValueSubtracted OP ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

All that being true, I think the discovery of a single survivor should have scuttled the entire mission.

ValueSubtracted ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Yeah…Star Trek has never been particularly good at one-off romance episodes, and this is certainly one of those.

For me, Gideon Seyetik is by far the most memorable part of the episode - Richard Kiley nails his particular brand of annoying charisma.

The episode also has Dax asking O’Brien to boost the top speed of Seyetik’s ship to warp 9.5 to avoid a potential supernova, a prominent example of Star Trek supernovae being apparently able to travel faster than light. So there’s that.

ValueSubtracted ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Lol now that you mention it, yes that is quite silly.

You know, I kind of like that. It’s a little touch of the rules of the ST universe being just a little bit different, and it sheds light on how something like the Romulan supernova can be so devastating.

Subspace, y’all.

SNW Musical Episode: Klingons’ Boy Band Number Was Almost an Opera ( tvline.com )

Arguably one of the best moments in the SNW Musical episode subspace rhapsody was Bruce Horak Cameo as the captain of the Klingon boy band. But there is a deleted scene of the opera version that while absolutly best scene won, would be fun to see released to fans

ValueSubtracted ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

It was also more in-line with the story - Klingon opera doesn’t really belong in American-style musical theatre, while it’s easier to slot this sort of pop into that style.

ValueSubtracted ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

It’s very interesting that startrek.com hasn’t acknowledged the cancellation even once.

ValueSubtracted ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

When the cancellation was reported, it was also said that the second season would be completed, and that the studio was actively shopping the series around for a buyer.

First look at Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is out.

The Doctor/EHM returns, as does the Voyager-A. Inject it into my veins. 🙂

We’re definitely open to it, but aren’t usually in the habit of hounding people over it, if you know what I mean. As we become more established, we might be able to make some organic connections, and follow up on some from the Reddit days.

As for a Treklit community…it’s probably too soon for one, but the best way to make the case for one is to have a lot of Treklit engagement in c/startrek. We want to see that in general, which is why we’ve been trying the weekly comics post.

I’m okay with what they did - they were tapping into the Broadway Musical Universe, after all, not the Epic Klingon Opera Universe.

Anyone else convinced Captain Batel is kinda doomed?

spoilerThe preview clip from “The Ready Room” suggests she’s about to have a very bad day, but maybe it’s a fakeout.
