How many of those 353k pay a living wage and have decent benefits?

Xariphon ,

Jumping spiders and those big anime eyes.

Edit: One time, I was at my in-laws' house and there was this bigass fly none of us could swat. Little shit legit dodged a fly swatter. But I spotted a zebra jumping spider hanging out in the window. So I ended up herding annoying!fly into that window, and suddenly BAM. Spider fren got a meal the size of herself, and we had no more annoying fly. Teamwork.

Xariphon ,

One of these things contributes significantly more to humanity, too.

Xariphon ,

So, what I'm hearing is, we're in for some really awesome / utterly mindfuck episodes.

Xariphon ,

I forgot he even directed that one. I was more thinking of Frame of Mind.

Xariphon ,

This really should be grounds for immediate removal...

Xariphon ,

It took me far too many braincells to realize that this headline means "being mean to scabs is effective" and not "being mean to scabs is, itself, doing work."

Maybe I need to use the sleep.

Trump has ‘moral compass of an axe murderer,’ says Georgia Republican ( www.theguardian.com )

Donald Trump has “the moral compass of an axe murderer”, a Republican opponent in Georgia said, discussing the former president’s legal predicament in the southern US state and elsewhere but also his continuing dominance of the presidential primary....

Xariphon ,

Did you vote for him anyway?

Congrats, so do you.

Xariphon ,

He got as close as he could to 100

Without going over.

(Kidding aside, his hosting was a part of my childhood fondly remembered. 99 years is a hell of a run.)

Xariphon ,

This dog wants to sell me overpriced magic items (and definitely, definitely not drugs).

Xariphon ,

Y'know I never realized it until just now, but...

Why does a Borg need an 8-pack?

Xariphon ,

This is going to kill people, and they like it that way.

Fuck Republicans.

Xariphon ,

Takes a bit of context...

I used to LARP.
At the game I played, I became leader of one of the five Baronies of our in-game nation.
We would have barony meetings on the regular...
...at which I used to have to struggle not to give the order to "make it so."

It's just... so perfect a turn of phrase it's hard not to use. But memeing in-game is bad.

Xariphon ,

They are prevented from voting due to age discrimination. There's nothing physical or mental preventing most young people from voting, only cultural and legal.

Xariphon ,

I think a guaranteed basic income for young people only would certainly make up for keeping them from working. Like you said, nobody having to work to live would be the ideal, but to ban people from being able to support themselves and doing nothing to make up the difference creates artificial dependence that keeps people in abusive situations with no recourse.

Arizona girl Alicia Navarro, missing since 2019, walks into tiny Montana police station and asks cops to take her off missing children list ( nypost.com )

Alicia Navarro, now 18, walked into a police department in a tiny Montana town 40 miles from the Canadian border and identified herself as the teen who was reported missing in September 2019, Glendale police said Wednesday....

Xariphon ,

That would require the law to acknowledge that young people have free will... Which it only does when they commit crimes.

Xariphon ,

The episodes he directed were consistently the best ones.

Xariphon ,

Because the fewer people there are who can vote, the fewer people there are voting against them while their lunatic cult shows up every time. Exclusion and cheating are the only way they've won an election in living memory.

Xariphon ,

Even when the size of a horse, cat wants snuggles.

Xariphon ,

The pupppppy!!! Just wanna hug him and scritch them ears!

Xariphon ,

All of my usual go-to ones have already been said (The Inner Light, Chains of Command, etc.) so I'll add one that I think had not:

Frame of Mind

The ones directed by Jonathan Frakes in general, but that one in particular is just amazing.

Also, I think it's called "Disaster"? The one where Picard is trapped with all the kids and that one girl steps up as "Number One" for the day and then Riker lets her sit in his chair at the end. It's not a perfect episode, but it is just really heartwarming.

Xariphon ,

Rascals is actually really problematic. A friend of mine wrote a solid analysis of why a while back; I can try n find it if anyone wants it.

Xariphon ,

What do you mean you've never heard of "The Laughing Vulcan and His Dog"?

Xariphon ,

To me that's part of the appeal, is going along for the mindf--- with him.

The Supreme Court May Preemptively Ban a Federal Wealth Tax ( newrepublic.com )

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published in 2021, two of the Moores’ lawyers also declared unambiguously that the lawsuit “stands to slam shut the door on a federal wealth tax like the one Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants to enact.” They made a direct pitch to “the courts” to hear the Moores’ case “now” to make it...

Xariphon ,

Where's the whining about "overreach" now?

Crickets?

Crickets and hypocrisy?

Thought so.

Xariphon ,

I mean that it's usually right-wingers whining about overreach, but when it's their assholes doing it for their fascist agenda all of a sudden they go silent, which is (unsurprisingly) flagrant hypocrisy.

Xariphon ,

Anything that supports their bigotry, doesn't need to be true.

"I'm not interested in reality" really sums up their entire position at this point.

Xariphon ,

Republicans don't own patriotism.

They do own not being able to tell the difference between patriotism and nationalism.
