In this thread: OP scaring the Americans because they think what they see in OP's pictures is the extent of the wall.

If fact, OP is just building out from an existing wall that is behind the OSB in his pictures.

Grogon, ask a local carpenter. I don't think Americans understand your German construction.

What is the best way to fix cracks before repainting ( lemmy.world )

I am renovating my son’s bedroom and trying to make the walls as nice as is reasonable before repainting. There are a few cracks like this in the paint. It looks like on top of the drywall there is paint, wallpaper, and then a few more layers of paint. The cracks could be at the seams of the drywall from expansion and...

I think there's a "right" way to do this and a "temporary" way to do this.

Temporary: Paint with a brush and jam paint into the cracks to fill them. Paint again if necessary.

Right: Remove wallpaper. Paint. This will be MUCH more work and could lead to replacing the drywall which could uncover mold or other problems in the walls and turn "just painting" into a MAJOR PROJECT.

The choice is yours.

Not sure that's all bad.

What a cute little Pac Man ghost!

Yes, a footless, floating, cute, little penguin. :)

Case fans are made to be attached with screws. Get the right screws and you're golden.

It should be ALL about hour hourly rate. If you are dragging that down by giving away your time then jokes on you.

@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

I also dislike this look.

My garage is back behind my house on the alley as it should be. What lunatic ever thought moving the carriage house to the front was a good idea?

Also...this is a plastic box. Why do people want to live in plastic boxes?

Pretty sure a tip intended for an employee going to the employer is illegal. Employers cannot keep tips.

guyrocket ,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

This is how it always should be. There is no good reason for employers to pay less if someone makes tips. It is stealing...whatever the law says.

guyrocket ,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

I (almost) always tip in cash. I hope this lowers the chance that an employer can intercept it.

@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

I want it. And I want to play it.

Is there a board game zine here anywhere?

from $40K to $50K

I don't know what construction wkrs make but I think this should be a LOT higher. 50K starting and topping out around 100k.

Why isn't government involved with this? Women get Title IX and men get "a thumb on the scale" and "an unofficial policy" ?

Does that seem fair to anyone?

I think an elongated seat/toilet makes sitting down much easier and more comfortable. Round seats/toilets really suck for a man.

Mortgage rates soar to their highest level in 21 years ( www.cnn.com )

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 7.09% in the week ending August 17, up from 6.96% the week before. Rates have been above 6.5% since the end of May and climbing higher since mid-July. This week’s average rate is the highest the 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage has been since April 2002 when it was 7.13%.

guyrocket ,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

So glad I got 2.5% on my 30 year fixed a couple of years ago when I refi'd.

I NEVER thought I would see a rate that low. I am still amazed at it.

I am very low contract with my mother and sister because they kept my ex as a friend after all her bullshit through the divorce. I put on a show for my son to have sort of normal family times at holidays, etc. but I mostly do not connect with them outside of time with my son. We are NOT friends.

So, internet stranger. I understand the crazy bullshit that comes with divorce for a man.

And it is amazing how quickly and thoroughly men are discarded after a divorce. Disposable indeed.

guyrocket ,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, divorce was similar for me. I was discussing and considering collaborative divorce with my lawyer until I was served the restraining order...which I got dismissed. That started about 2 years of legal theater propelled by stupid amounts of money.

You do find out just how selfish your family is when you go through a divorce, don't you? And how little they really care about you.

At a certain point I went "Bush" on family/friends: If you're not for me then you're against me. I still think it brought me back to some sort of sanity in dealing with people. And taking the trash people out of my life.

guyrocket ,
@guyrocket@kbin.social avatar

I am glad this perspective is being presented. I think ftm people have a unique view of how difficult it can be to be a man that throws light on a lot of men's issues.

I hope this person can present more along these lines. I think I could come up with hundreds of questions.

Thank you, Kit.
Here are some questions:

  1. I don't know if women really understand how powerful testosterone is. What was/is your experience with it?
  2. What other biological differences did you notice? Were they temporary or permanent?
  3. How do you think men and women can better understand each other?
  4. What are some things you would change about women? And about men?
  5. What did you think about strip clubs when you were a woman? Did that opinion change as a man? Why and how?
  6. What did you think about women before transitioning and how did that change after you transitioned? And also about men.

I don't want to wear out my welcome so I'll stop there. No rush to answer, I'd prefer more complete answers to quick ones.

This is all very interesting. Thanks again, Kit.

The demographics of Kbin | Survey ( take.supersurvey.com )

I'm curious about the demographic makeup of Kbin. As we are still in it's infancy I feel that most lean towards a certain way, so I made this survey just now to find out. I encourage you to join in, and you can skip any and every question if you so choose. You can view the results at the bottom of the page.

Education level options are...odd.
Some college, college degree
Some graduate school, grad degree
Etc

35 is a VERY young age for a hiring cutoff. I think the Chinese government would do well for all Chinese to drop this age requirement.

This seems so crazy I am surprised to even be discussing it.
