A friend of mine got his to grow with an elaborate system of rubber bands.

I’ve never even found a four leaf clover. I mean, I guess the last time I tried I was like 9 but still.

intensely_human ,

Well, so has building with concrete.

intensely_human ,

Benefitting humans, as a definition.

Concrete lets people build things by moving semiliquid around that hardens.

Reinforced concrete can span big gaps enabling skyscrapers basically, parking garages, structures like that.

intensely_human ,

Just curious, what’s your political leaning?

intensely_human ,

Get some photos of street lights viewed through bare tree branches. The effect is pretty cool.

intensely_human ,

How do you get a cat to make an angry face?

intensely_human ,

He looks deadpan, like he’s just ordered you to be tossed off a bridge for a debt you haven’t paid him

intensely_human ,

I can’t declare this safe or unsafe, but really thick layers of “towel” between the upper end and the wall will help distribute the force on the wall making it less likely to punch through the drywall.

You could put a big piece of plywood there, but there’s no way to hold it in place.

I have a major in structural engineering, and I’m commenting to say that you want to be very careful with reasoning that something will total less force because it caps out at your body weight.

Just to give an example, if you have a wire strung between two poles, and you hang your 100 lb self from the middle of that wire, the tension against the poles can easily be thousands of pounds.

It’s not going to play out that way with the ladder, unless the ladder is flexing. But if you have a ladder that bends, and it’s got a 10 degree bend in it, while the ladder is straightening it can be exerting far more force than your weight on the two ends.

Considering the static force diagram, a 100 lb downward force is going to be balanced by a set of opposing forces that sum to an upward 100 lb force.

Given that there are horizontal forces involved too, these individual force components can easily be greater than their sum.

Not saying for sure this ladder situation is one of those situations, but if you’re consistently applying a heuristic that a system of forces will be limited to the force input of an external stressor, you can be very rudely surprised by the actual system when it generates forces in the tons.

Well, attempting to enhance one’s own senses is generally a sign of anxiety in the animal kingdom. Like wide open eyes for example.

intensely_human ,

No.

intensely_human ,

Also these numbers are going to be higher for bigger operations.

intensely_human ,

And walls

intensely_human ,

And two companies with the same proportional structure, but of different number of employees, will have different numbers in this representation.

I have zero experience with this problem and I’m just spitballing but I’d consider. (Note that I’m rather stupid, don’t own a home, and uneducated about electrician stuff):

  • Some kind of epoxy to just totally coat the outside. Slather it on and it hardens and I don’t have to think about it
  • build a little enclosure around that bit so it’s living a bit more “inside”. probably impractical but a fun challenge
  • wrap electrical tape, then pipe insulation. Tape over the pipe insulation then brush on something that cures into a waterproof seal

Also ask an electrician

Huskies’ natural environment is like Siberia isn’t it? Would it be okay to shave a husky in a tropical climate (assuming the decision to own a husky in a tropical climate’s too late to undo)

Need help understanding my situation about vents and ducts ( lemmy.world )

First time home owner here. I stuck these vent deflectors a month ago on one of our vents and I removed it today for some other reason. I noticed these stains that looked like water stains but I think it’s actually something that is growing - maybe unfortunately mold or something. I need help in understanding this situation...

intensely_human ,

Does the stuff scrape off? What’s the result look like if you give it exactly one good scrape with a flathead screwdriver?

Kitchen completed. ( lemmy.world )

A few years ago i bought a very run down mobile home and i started rebuilding it from the steel/iron frame up. Ill include a few pics of the in between in the comments, but this is my kitchen finally completed. I rehabbed some used cabinets and built a good bit of them from scratch as well as the cabinet doors. This is my first...

intensely_human ,

Yeah but how would you burn the building down sealing up around some pipes?

intensely_human ,

“Yes, I am aware I look like a puppy”

“Yes, my hair is soft”

“Yes you may touch it”

“If you don’t mind I’ll go back to grocery shopping please”

intensely_human ,

If those baseboards are producing a high enough temperature to light the drapes, nothing in your house is safe in any configuration.

intensely_human ,

What are we up to now 20 pictures of this dog?

intensely_human ,

This portrait looks noble and serious as fuck.

I can see a huge painting of this cat’s face on the wall behind a government official’s desk. With exactly this look on the cat’s face.

intensely_human ,

Right, the economy isn’t something that supports the life of all humans. Billionaires have yachts so it must only be working for them. And since only billionaires benefit from the economy, we can wreck it no problem. There won’t be deaths from starvation and exposure, because food and housing aren’t part of the economy we’re going to wreck.

intensely_human ,

Do maintenance on the air filters. The water is being condensed straight from the air so it’s not hard water or anything. The only explanation is that enough dust is settling in the water that it clogs the drain. There must be some kind of air filter upstream of where dust can collect in the water line, and that air filter probably needs replacing.

intensely_human ,

And if the unit plugs into an outlet there are smart adapters than can cut off power at a signal from the security system.

intensely_human ,

Just so we’re clear I don’t see these pictures as cute but I’m upvoting them anyway because they’re fun.

intensely_human ,

Velcro

intensely_human ,

Imagine if you trained them to freeze

intensely_human ,

Seriously?? That’s such a weird experience. I saw this photo and thought “It would be weird if this was a video and they were all frozen”.

I wonder what they look like without the poodle cut

intensely_human ,

I’ve never known wood to shrink

intensely_human ,

Braces will intersect with the boats. Instead it should be anchored to the wall at the top.

intensely_human ,

They need to be cuddled and loved and given lots of treats.
