There are two Star Trek total conversions for Stellaris, even, each with their own unique approach. New Civilizations might even be a little better, imo.

Also, Resurgence already came out, to mixed reviews—but no microtransactions! It’s coming out on Steam in May, but that’s because it was a timed Epic exclusive.

I tried to play it when it came out, but there were some visual issues that started to give me a migraine so I put it down and just haven’t picked it up since. At some point I’ll give it another shot and see if they fixed the migraine issue haha

I have nothing wrong with lighthearted takes on Trek, but choosing to make the movie about “fascist space emperor joins the CIA” lighthearted seems like a dubious choice. I guess we’ll see how they portray it but given how Trek has handled S31 so far, I don’t want to get my hopes up.

No, there may be inequality and bigotry in some solarpunk fiction but unlike cyberpunk it’s not about “our heroes fighting the system that will almost inevitably crush them”. Solarpunk is innately hopeful, and there’s conflict (kinda intrinsic to storytelling) but it doesn’t require the existence of inequality or bigotry, and a lot of solarpunk fiction explicitly doesn’t have any bigotry in it period.

Cyberpunk might be about “our system sucks, and our heroes may or may not want it to change”, but solarpunk is about “the system of the modern day was bad, and so we replaced it entirely”. The “punk” part doesn’t require that the heroes are individually punks within the context of their own world, it’s called punk because it’s in contrast to our modern system. Also because -punk is kinda a generic term for genres at this point.

The ending was decent. It ended right where the book series it’s based off of has a 30-year time skip, so it worked out pretty well for them. They have plenty of time to come back to it and still keep continuity with actors too FWIW.

You can buy alcohol cheap from a store in real life, along with all the ingredients to make drinks, yet people still go to bars where cocktails cost more than a meal. They’re not going just because of superior bartending skills, they’re going as part of the experience of drinking with other people. Because on DS9, your other option is basically to drink in your quarters, which is no fun.

There are more options for food on DS9, but people still go to Quark’s for the atmosphere. It’s lively and fun, which is probably hard to come by otherwise on a remote space station. I doubt people are coming to Quark’s in droves for the food though, it’s more just something you get if you’re already there.

No. It fits Captain Angel’s perspective as an edgy pirate pining after their lover, but Starfleet is full of hopeful, enthusiastic scientists who are in space because they want to be. They love exploration for exploration’s sake, and are on a ship full of people who likely have similar interests.

Angel’s perspective is warped by their passion; I mean, they’re literally in the middle of hijacking a Starfleet ship to get their lover back. They think their dependency on love is universal, when in reality most people are more emotionally stable than them. Although it probably helps when you’re in Starfleet and have an incredibly supportive working environment and not, you know, a pirate crew.

True enough; it’s a very different framing, but there’s still love there, still passion.

I think a big difference is that Starfleet folks tend to be more intrinsically driven. Space isn’t something that needs to be “made bearable” (unless you’re McCoy I guess)—space is cool in its own right, tons of things to see and people to meet. But on top of that, the Federation has such a high tech level and quality of life that living on a starship is pretty luxurious.

They linked directly to the post on the Lemmy side, so I’m guessing it’s an issue with how Mastodon handles Lemmy posts. I’m on a different Lemmy instance and I can see the direct link just fine.

It’s a shame you didn’t like The Elysian Kingdom, I thought that was a great episode. But then I’m a sucker for episodes where the actors get to act out of character for a while, and a LARP episode was silly fun. I suppose it’s just a preference thing.

I can’t believe you compared in the same breath as Code of Honor, though—lots of Trek is boring at times, but Code of Honor is straight up offensive, a true failure for Trek. If anything, Elysian Kingdom is more similar to Threshold in the “low quality” sense than to Code of Honor, which is actually an awful episode that shouldn’t have been made.

I'm a beginner and want to use Proxmox. What should I use to make a USB hard drive accessible to other devices on my network?

I have a mini-PC running windows. On that, I run home assistant in virtualbox, have plex installed, and a cheap USB harddrive plugged in to keep my plex media. I’ve turned on sharing for a folder in this drive so other devices on my network can access it....

Ideally, you’d spin up a dedicated container for every service. Combining services somewhat undercuts the advantages of having them in containers to begin with.

A lot of people like having a NAS VM like OpenMediaVault or TrueNAS that handles their drives via passthrough.

It sounds like you would prefer a lighter weight option—the way my storage is set up is ZFS pools handled by Proxmox itself, then bind mounted from the host into containers that handle the actual file sharing portion. I have separate, self-configured containers for Samba and NFS, but there are turnkey options in the proxmox template menu if you’d prefer.
