I don’t get why they couldn’t have done that here in the first goddamn place. We’ll see in November but the August special election is the first step in showing that we may not be as red as we look, and we need a map that reflects that. Not that the GOP cares, but
Yeah, this is it. While I prefer WFH, I don’t mind working in the office, but I don’t want to spend more time driving to and from, that’s just more lost free time.
My company actually closed the office where I worked because we all went 100% remote and they never forced the issue. It wouldn’t have helped their case that we have dozens of other employees all over the country not linked to either of the company’s offices.
Nah, driving home in the afternoon/evening rush was even more infuriating than the drive to work because it just seemed even slower and more time-consuming, eating into the vanishingly little time you have left for yourself
I was applying for postdoc fellowships while doing a gig as an adjunct prof (do not recommend); I got an email from a PI who wanted to set up an interview, followed by couple more that told me that I need to respond to emails if I want to get a job anywhere in academia. All of these were delivered in the span of one lab session I was teaching. I told her as much and she told me I needed to stop wasting her time. I told her that, with that attitude, it looked like I dodged a bullet.
