Daily pay makes it easier to just fire people whenever, no special process to cut a check or say it will show up. There's also a rich vs. poor aspect, daily or weekly pay isn't a meaningful benefit for the executive class, pretending it is for the working class is helping to keep the divide.
For those that haven't seen it, the bear meme is an article some lady wrote. A majority of women would rather be alone in the woods with a random bear, than a random man. Then she posted about getting hate mail for that.
This is a really weird issue that I really don't understand how it's so persistent. Even younger women doctors seem reluctant to sterilize women without at least checking if a husband/so is ok with it.
Somewhat related, advice about being irreplaceable is bad for this exact reason. The more replaceable you are, the easier to promote you and take longer vacations. Sure you might be able to get fired more easily, but most managers won't put forth the effort.
The fear of men is vastly over exaggerated. Men are still far more likely to be assaulted or murdered than women. Even when women are attacked, it's rarely a stranger.
A challenge to the FTC rule would ultimately lead to a potential Supreme Court case. The court is currently deciding on a case that could render render this decision moot before it ever gets that far.
They've tried several times with mixed results. Countries that allow cheap labor are generally difficult to deal with and quality is a real problem. Countries with better quality tend to have better labor protection that results in more problems for the company than US employees.
Downtime gets exhausting too. A day of nothing after a week of hard work is nice. Several days in a row of less than an hour of productive work is draining and makes it hard to actually work once things pick up.
This happens a lot: I apply for a job and they ask for my complete address. Why? I would understand if they just want to know what city/town I’m in: That has bearing on how easily I can get to the office....
It’s a somewhat new concept that sort of combined happiness and work effort. Active engagement goes above and beyond, engaged employees are generally positive, disengaged employees are slightly negative, and actively disengaged employees are like cancer.
It’s a nebulous concept that boils down to good employees are good, but gets management consultants paid.
Grocery chain Trader Joe’s is joining Elon Musk’s SpaceX in arguing that the US labor board, which is prosecuting cases against both companies, is unconstitutional.
I don’t understand the trader Joe’s love. It’s a grocery store with a poor selection of fruits, vegetables, and fresh meats. They have a decent wine and beer selection. It’s basically half frozen stuff, it’s maybe higher quality than other places, but it’s just frozen shit.
Thousands of Swedish workers are rallying behind 120 Tesla mechanics. The workers are boycotting Teslas until the company signs a contract. Even postal workers may stop delivering mail.
Sweden is a weird place where basically everything is decided by union contracts. There isn’t even a national minimum wage as there’s enough union power that they effectively get one in the contracts. Companies that try to fight it generally end up losing when they can’t do literally anything without a union blocking them.
This would probably work fine, it might be a bit slow, but a coffee pot gets plenty hot to cook chicken. My main concern would be the lack of fluid increases the chances that pot breaks.
