Gulliani has absolutely flipped on Trump, Trump is utterly fucked and zero lubricant is going to be used.

…(unless by some slim chance fascist dictatorships suddenly come into fashion and he wins the presidency against all odds, and then he can manage to pardon himself and everything will be fine).. this really does seem to be his plan right now, it’s increasingly excellent to watch his desperation increase.

Yep. The next election is basically a coin flip. It will be decided by a few thousand people in a small number of swing states, thanks to our idiotic system.

Florida's pension fund only had a $50m position in InBev, for a loss of ~$600k. Not a lot out of a fund of $235 billion. Florida pension funds under DeSantis also took a $200m bath because they invested in Russia, and because DeSantis gave control of Florida's pension funds to managers who donated to his campaign. Still they're using this as an excuse to push their culture war and threaten InBev with lawsuits over less significant losses that Republicans caused.

His culture war bullshit is getting so stale (and borderline cringe) at this point. Don’t want a guy chasing companies and institutions for being “woke” and not do shit for their people as president.

He goes on about this woke stuff a lot. He wants all companies to support the GOP.

flipht ,

It's deeper than that. The entire regressive ecosystem is about convincing them that they are the default, and anything else is wrong or at least questionable, and that conforming is the only way to show loyalty.

This is up and down the chain, from the family to the church to the legislative bodies.

At the end of March, Florida’s pension fund held more than 682,000 shares of AB InBev valued at the time at nearly $46 million. The company’s stock price has fallen since then from $66 a share to $58, though it’s still higher than its 52-week low of $44 from September 2022, which was well before the company’s recent controversies.

And this is where I stopped reading. It’s up year over year and he wants to sue? He of course bitches about “woke” while discussing this. Meanwhile he has no shot of winning the primary which makes this all the more pathetic.

30isthenew29 , to Politics in DeSantis calls for state investment manager to consider action against Bud Light's parent company

Why would they interfere with a private company? If Bud’s marketing doesn’t work, they will see it on their finances and will then change to not go bankrupt. Why do politicians even care about beer rather than to regulate? Just do politics already!

IMO every other issue in congress stems from blatant conflict of interest like this, and like donations. To a point where even if youre a single issue voter for something like healthcare, or budget, etc, this is still the first step to resolving your concern. How are drug and health insurance prices ever going to be regulated in favor of those that need it, if representatives financially benefit from doing the opposite?

People elected to federal government are already entitled to salaries they can comfortably live on. And they should really be living on that exclusively while serving.

It’s amazing to me how passionately people I’ve known personally will defend politicians ‘right’ to effectively profit from their service far beyond their salaries. Arguments like “If we don’t let them earn more money talented people won’t enter politics” and “It’s not fair to punish them for being successful”. It’s just insane to me.

Yeah, that's why talented people never enter teaching or the sciences. Though, to be fair, I'd be a bit wary of giving power to someone whose passion in life was politics.

JustZ , to Politics in Senators introduce bipartisan ban on stock ownership for executive and legislative branch office holders and their families | CNN Politics

The only thing bipartisan about this is the knowledge that such a bill will never pass. That’s why these psychos introduce it every so often. Just a publicity stunt.

Chrisosaur ,

Psychos? I’m sure the publicity doesn’t hurt, but it’s a good policy. There’s been enough shady insider shit to warrant shutting this down.

e_t_ Admin ,

It is a good policy, but if it's only introduced with the certain knowledge it'll never pass, it's purely performative.

And thus I clothe my naked villany
With old odd ends stolen out of holy writ;
And seem a saint, when most I play the devil.
