Damn, have an upvote!

RememberTheApollo_ , to Star Trek in A touching quote from Nimoy's "I am Spock" book (1995)

He wasn’t always Spock to me.

I saw him in tv shows like “In Search Of…” and other movies like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. I know I saw a Western with him in it, but can’t remember which one.

Yeah, Spock is his most famous role by far, and despite what anyone thinks of the new Trek movies, I really loved his part in them. (IMO Quinto does a great Spock. No, it’s not Nimoy, but it’s a really good performance.)

Maven ,
@Maven@lemmy.world avatar

He’s also one of the best bad guys in Columbo

RememberTheApollo_ ,

Aww, went looking for it and I couldn’t find the full episode. If anyone else wants to know, it’s S02:E06 Columbo: A Snitch in Crime if you want to see highlights or look for the episode.

Maven ,

It is on peacock but then you have to like… Use peacock…

RememberTheApollo_ ,

Nope. I’m subscribed out. Unless it can be found on the high seas, I’ll be giving this one a pass.

peopleproblems ,

Don’t forget about the Bilbo Baggins video!

averagedrunk ,

That video was the pinnacle of art. We should have just given up on society after it was done because nothing that comes after could possibly be any better.

LeafOnTheWind ,

I don’t care what people say about the new Star Trek movies at all. I liked them.

BlueDwaggin , to Star Trek in A touching quote from Nimoy's "I am Spock" book (1995)

Civ always makes me think of Nimoy. His voice-lines for Civ 4 echo in my head to this day.

I had no idea that Mr. Nimoy was the son of Jewish Ukrainian immigrants.

He will also be William Bell forever.

DoctorWhookah ,

I loved that show and hate they had to rush an ending to it.

tslnox ,

Still I think it was a beautiful ending and they wouldn’t come up with anything better.

And Sentinel Prime in the Bayverse, which makes him one of the only redeeming qualities of that steaming pile of waste.

anon6789 ,
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

I did see that when I was checking if Nemoy continued to do the voice in the series or just the movie. (He didn’t, it went back to Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron.)

I gave the first Bay movie a chance, because did 6 year old me ever love transformers in the 80s, but one Bay movie was more than enough for me. Maybe I’ll look up the Bay scenes on YouTube so I can hear Nemoy without dealing with the rest of the movie…

absolutely perfect useage of the word “visage” here, really adds to it

He strikes (struck?) me as someone who would drop a word like ‘visage’ into normal conversation.

I mean yeah probably but you gotta have a certain je ne sais quoi to pull that shit off. it’s hard. but when it works it’s so good

whileloop , to Star Trek in Gene Roddenberry's first sci-fi show pitch from 1955: "The Transporter"
@whileloop@lemmy.world avatar

The ending bits that imply a darker vision of this future suggests a very different direction for the show. Still, there are Star Trek episodes that do consider the holodeck from this angle. Maybe we need a mirror universe holodeck episode.

ininewcrow ,
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

Someone should create a series where the entire Star Trek franchise was a holodeck simulation played by unwitting actors for our amusement.

ElderWendigo ,
@ElderWendigo@sh.itjust.works avatar

They did. It was called Enterprise.

GraniteM ,

WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THAT EPISODE.

GregorGizeh , (edited )

Even the creators agree that it sucks tremendously and suggest that the second to last episode is the supposed season finale (the one ending with archer pulling a Picard, giving an epic speech)

GregorGizeh , to Star Trek in Gene Roddenberry's first sci-fi show pitch from 1955: "The Transporter"

It unreasonably annoys me that he wrote “television, smellevision, soundevision” and not television, telesmell, telesound"

Just_Pizza_Crust ,

Roddenberry really just said whatever came to mind, whenever something came to mind.

They must have completely rewritten the script to get Jason Statham on board.
