WHYAREWEALLCAPS OP , to Politics in Ohio Republicans Say It’s Their ‘God Given Right’ to Restrict Abortion Access

Tell me again how Republicans respect democracy? This was its purest form and these Republicans, unhappy with the majority's decision, would rather destroy the legitimacy of democracy than abide by it.

potterpockets ,

The “good” news here is that the Supreme Court of Ohio almost assuredly will not go along with this (even though it could result in a constitutional crisis in the state of sorts).

If they were to cede the power of judicial review to the legislature then if the Dems ever did manage to take the legislature here in Ohio they could pass things like (gasp) gun control, gerrymandering regulation, etc.

And that doesn’t even take into account public outcry/protest.

Midnitte , to U.S. News in Trump Received Millions From Foreign Governments as President, Report Finds

And of course, this is exactly why we had the “norm” of presidents divesting themselves and placing their business interests in blind trusts.

Instead, Trump completely ignored that and claims his business was just running as normal and the fact that these foreign governments paid his business was just “normal business” (I’ve got a bridge to sell you for 400x over market price).

Just really demonstrates how openly corrupt he is and the contempt he holds for the rule of law and our principles.

Excellent coverage of the blindingly obvious.

That said, @tardigrada, going forward, please use the original source as the link. This allows us to determine what we’re walking into in a way that archive.org does not! I’ve updated the sidebar to clarify.

tardigrada OP ,

Usually I use the original source, but in that case it’s behind a paywall.

Powderhorn Mod ,

Apologies for being unclear. I’ve revised the sidebar to reflect the need to use the original source regardless of paywall.

Archive links make sourcing unclear as people browse new posts, so this makes for a better experience.

tardigrada OP ,

Well, we can do that, of course, but then most people won’t be able to access the source. Not sure whether this is really makes a better experience. But that’s just my opinion. (Just posted the original link ofvthis article in the comments as you might have seen.)

We’re still talking past each other. The archive link should be included, just in the body, not as the URL in the form.

tardigrada OP ,

Ah, now I got it. Sorry, I’m a bit slow today :-) just made the changes.

Shocking! Next they’re going to imply that Trump somehow was affiliated with a riot or something!

They should absolutely amend the constitution to protect their right to fuck themselves.

cobra89 , to Politics in Ohio Republicans Say It’s Their ‘God Given Right’ to Restrict Abortion Access

Isn’t this the same exact shit they did with the marijuana referendum a couple years ago? These people need to be barred from ever holding public office for failing to uphold their duty to serve.

Isn’t the vague language their fault? They intentionally kept it vague hoping voters would be confused. But they weren’t

The thing about these poll is they don't straight up ask you who you're voting for. They ask a bunch of emotionally charged questions about how you feel.

I may hate the DNC & think Biden is too old, but I understand Game Theory & I'm not voting for a .

Polls have been garbage since 2020.

It’s a feature, not a bug. Keep people impoverished so they’re willing to accept whatever horrifying, exploitative conditions necessary to keep a job.

Capitalism is the problem.

If they did that wouldn’t some other company just take over because their offer is more convenient for the end user? It only works by changing the rules of the game as far as I can tell, in modesty.

0x815 OP ,

@Elise

These are good points and possibly true, but we need to be careful. I haven’t formed an opinion on this particular matter with these three companies, but across the econony in many countries -at least in the US and Europe- we often see that the rules are fine, they are just not applied. (The bank failures in the US earlier this year are a good example: bank regulations might be good enough also for the US, but the Silicon Valley Bank and others were exempted from the rules … But as I said, I don’t know whether there is a similar pattern here.)

The best thing would be if end users would stop buying at such companies, however, no matter what the rules are. I fully agree.
