I had to stop Picard's first episode because I burst out laughing when the superhero jump up the stairs happened.
I finished 2 seasons of Discover before I stopped watching.

I don't think I'll go back and try to finish either series, but I could stand DISC way longer.

Next steps after the bear

As has been discussed already here in this community, the key takeaway from the bear hypothetical is that it is an opportunity to truly listen to the lived experiences of women under patriarchal systems. I encourage "first response" to the bear discussion to head back to this post, as I am looking for discussion kind of after...

You can always look at the modlog, I always do when I see a thread with multiple removals:
https://lemmy.ca/modlog/15644

Most of the removed comments were people calling each other tankie/nazi/incel.

DerisionConsulting ,

There was a thing where a woman said that she would feel more safe in a forest with a random bear than with a random man. Then the people who would comment on this type of thing commented, then the kinds of people who comment on the comments did their thing.

DerisionConsulting ,

The internet is large and there is no way that everyone sees all of the same things as each other, especially when most of the "conversation" about the topic happens on a different platform.

Lewis Moghul, 22, was found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit

Both Dr Box and Dr Helman believe graduated driving licences could stop between 20% and 40% of crashes involving young drivers, who currently account for a fifth of all road deaths and serious injuries in the UK each year.

If someone is already breaking a law regarding driving, what's to stop them from breaking another?

Dealing with a BS "Billing Desk" [USA]

What are my options when my provider sends me a bill without submitting a claim with my med insurance, and is ignoring my repeated requests to submit the claim and send me a revised bill post-settlement? How do I prove that I do not owe the billed amount, and I do not owe them anything until they claim it through my insurance...

DerisionConsulting ,

Note - this is in the USA.

You are worried about a medical situation ruining you financially, we know that you live in the USA, but the rules in the sidebar want you to edit the title to say [USA].

One of the major problems with collections, is that there aren’t any checks and balances. Whoever can just get a collection agency to go after basically anyone. Once it gets to collections, it’s often on you to try to prove that you don’t need to pay the bill, and not them needing to prove that you do need to pay the bill.

Does your medical insurance advocate on your behalf, can you send them the bill yourself for them to deal with?

DerisionConsulting ,

I am not an American, but you may be able to submit it to your insurance yourself. Where I live, teeth are joking called “luxury bones” because dental isn’t covered for everyone by the government. Some dentists/orthodontists just don’t submit things to insurance, and we need to do it ourselves, though the vast majority of the offices do submit, because people will avoid those that don’t if they can.

I wanted to see a graph, and couldn’t find one online.

It looks like, at least in the middle of Canada, being born between 1960 and 1980 was the ideal time if you wanted to buy a home.

This doesn’t take into account mortgage rates, tax rates, average household income, unemployment rates, or other cost of living expenses.
I just wanted a little chart, not to lose my whole day

In the middle of Canada; Winnipeg, MB:

Year Minimum wage House price Price/wage (lower is better)
1960 $0.66 $15,151 22,956
1970 $1.50 $51,678 34,452
1980 $3.15 $53,513 16,988
1990 $4.70 $87,173 18,547
2000 $6.00 $95,520 15,920
2010 $9.50 $231,411 24,359
2020 $11.90 $299,994 25,209

DerisionConsulting ,

If we wanted things to keep pace with the house price to wage ratio of 1980(for people born in 1960), Minimum wage should’ve been $17.66 in 2020.

I don’t think that attract men are rarer, societally it just seems like we’re being judged on different scales. Something I’ve noticed, although only anecdotally:

If you get a group of people attracted to women to describe what an attractive woman is, you’ll get a fairly similar answer.
This makes it easier to know where you stand, and also easier to become “more attractive” easier, because there is a fairly consistant goal to be achieved.

If you ask a group of people attracted to men to describe what an attractive man is, you’ll generally get a few different archetypes.
A guy with a beard will get an instant 0 from some people, but it’s a positive for others.
A guy with abs will get an instant 0 from some people, but it’s a positive for others.
A guy with little/no hair will get an instant 0 from some people, but it’s a positive for others.

Is this supposed to link to an article?

I’m not an app person, but it seems like none of the Lemmy aps are up to snuff.

Does the ap you use handle Subscript and strike-through correctly, or does it cross them both out?

I haven’t really heard anything about her since gamergate, and the anti-SJW/feminist days in the 2010’s. I have seen her pop up twice in a week, both times in places where anti-SJW beliefs would not be welcome.

Are her views/take fairly shallow and easily swayed, has she matured as a person and changed her politics, or is she just an online creator following where the trends are for views?

DerisionConsulting ,

Not blasphemy at all.

ToS isn’t good. It was decent for the time, but it’s not good.
TAS, see above but for kids. Think the Scooby-doo show from the 60’s.
I liked Enterprise when I watched it on tv, but not a lot of people liked it.

Other than SNW the new Trek shows aren’t really “core trek” either. They each have their own style which appeals to different people.
I wanted to like Discovery, but it seems to want to be a CW show about 3/4 of the time. We made it through the first two seasons and stopped.
Picard: I also wanted to like it. He’s my husband’s favourite captain after all. I burst out laughing when Dahj is jumping around like a superhero in the first episode That’s as far as I got.
Lower Decks: Not a fan of the adult-comedy-cartoon genre.
Prodigy: I am not in the right age demographic.

DerisionConsulting ,

Opinions will differ.

DerisionConsulting ,

It’s poorly worded.

I assume they are meaning “When being viewed in imessage, the messages they send are in a green bubble, meaning they are using a non-apple device”. Doesn’t need to be android, there are other phone OSs.

“Green text” is also slang for a specific writing style on 4chan. If someone just kept sending me text memes from 4chan, that would be a red flag.

DerisionConsulting ,

The oval shape is so a penis doesn’t touch the seat/bowl when you sit.
On round toilets, someone with a penis might need to touch the seat with their hands the whole time they are seated.

The little blurb shown on this post is wrong:

Roxann Dawson was an actor on Star Trek: Voyager before she became a TV director, although she’s never actually directed a Star Trek episode.

She directed about 10% of all Enterprise episodes.
