Just to respond to your temperature comment, it has been down that trimming/shaving a cat’s hair can actually make it harder for them to stay cool.

My old hedgehog surprised me by seemingly intentionally showing me her fresh young a few days after birth. She opened up the nest when I came over to refill her water and then crawled on my lap with them exposed.

She was fantastic and I was really worried I’d be a bad hedgehog owner. I’d only had cats, dogs, fish, and an iguana before. She died in her sleep soon after her baby was old enough to eat regular food. One of the best pets I’ve ever had, but not the smartest.
