I haven't watched Lower Decks or Orville, but Strange New Worlds and Picard.

Whilst I do think, Picard sucked and I do like SNW, I am not praising the latter as apparently the entire fandom.

Well produced, written, directed and played, indeed, but, until now, truly tame and unbold to change expectations. Good entertainment, but hardly anything more.

Discovery was better than it was received, and DS9 is, for me, still the best ST ever made.

As far as I see it: The series actually reverts the whole premise of Asimov's vision, which is:

The behaviour of large groups of people can be modelled statistically, whilst in the series, everything hinges on specific events and persons.

If you want to film a long term epic tale about galactic civilisations, be my guest, but don't call it "Foundation".

Note: As good as Asimov's world building is, literarily, he's only mediocre.

Now that I pissed off as well the fans of the series, as the ones of Asimov, let me explain:

Asimov set milestones for SF:

His Laws of Robotics and Foundation are cornerstones of the genre.

When I say: "His literature is mediocre" it's because he is not truly interested in his characters. He has no love for them. His stories are ideas driven, not character driven.

I'd still recommend him to anybody, even mildly interested in SF.

Jonathan Frakes on Directing Next Generation, Lower Decks

This interview goes assorted places, but it has a small interesting bit about next year's Discovery finale.

I never understood the hate towards Discovery.

It had its flaws (namely in its pacing: too much talking about feelings and reasons instead of just showing them, but lazy writing is a general problem of our time), but I truly enjoyed the characters and the story.

Slight disagreement: Books and series are both fantastic, and yet: There are a bunch of great sagas and novels, but hard as TV series on that level?

The series absolutely excels in its art form, the novels only shine very brightly in their, due to the much bigger competition.
