Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

The most prominent prison we’ve seen in the TNG era is the New Zealand Penal Settlement, but not a lot is known about it. There was definitely labour involved, though I think it’s an open question whether it was “forced.”

Skydance Makes Offer For Paramount Global; Star Trek Franchise Could Be Under New Ownership, Again ( trekmovie.com )

There is an update on the Paramount takeover buzz that kicked off last month with David Ellison’s Skydance Media reported to have made an offer to purchase control of Paramount Global. A change in ownership for the company that owns Star Trek could have an impact on the future of the franchise.

Until this becomes an actual news story, it’s more appropriate for c/quarks.

'Ivory Tower', likely aka 'Starfleet Academy' preproduction rumoured to start in March ( startrek.website )

The Directors Guild of Canada (Ontario) ‘Hot List’ compilation of Ontario-based production information has been updated with a new CBS Studios show ‘Ivory Tower’ to begin Accounting & Art Department preproduction in March.

If true, we should probably see some casting news in the near future…

Sure - one of our community members even put together a guide for new players.

I think most people would agree that the space combat is the games biggest strength.

Huh…yeah, if a basic “press ‘F’” doesn’t work, something ain’t right.

I rarely have server connection issues like those any more - if anything, stuttering from the graphical effects are the bigger bottleneck.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I agree that it’s dated (the 14-year anniversary event started today), but I wouldn’t say it’s on life support - the content release schedule is pretty much the same as it ever was.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Sure, if it’s not what you want out of a game, I’m not going to argue with that.

But it’s really the same game that it’s always been.

I didn’t realize the Good Decider had logged on. How nice to have you.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Really? Based on what? I’ve always thought they were one of the healthiest couples of the franchise.

Wait, people on the internet can ask each other about those opinions in an attempt to gain greater understanding of them?!

Does anyone here have the Eaglemoss Enterprise D dedication plaque? If so, did you figure out a way to mount it on the wall? ( lemmy.world )

I can’t figure it out. It isn’t huge, but it’s heavy. Specs are 9 x 2 x 12 inches - ‎1.52 pounds. And it’s totally smooth on the back. Nowhere to put a hook. Has anyone figured out a way to do it?...

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I don’t have the plaque, but would a holder for decorative plates do the trick?

Pretty harsh to call Tuvok “chaff” - the man’s chief of security!

Yeah, internet drama isn’t a topic that we’re interested in hosting on this instance.

Star Trek: Discovery final season will premiere at SXSW; logline released ( schedule.sxsw.com )

Captain Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to retrieve a mysterious 800-year-old Romulan vessel; until the artifact hidden inside is stolen, leading to an epic chase. Meanwhile, Saru is offered the position of a lifetime, and Tilly’s efforts to help pull her into a tangled web of secrecy.

Trek Central has also provided a picture of what is probably the Romulan ship described in the synopsis.

A green Romulan vessel in orbit of a planet, surrounded by what appears to be debris.

ValueSubtracted OP Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I just realized that an 800 year-old Romulan vessel would place its origin in the 2390s…

ValueSubtracted OP Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Also, TrekCore has compiled some shots of what appears to the be interior:

Four stills of Starfleet officers moving through green-tinted ship corridors.

ValueSubtracted OP Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Agreed - its shape is nearly identical.

@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

That setting is the rough timeframe that precedes the first season of “Picard,” with the Romulan supernova, the attack on Mars, and various other events of that nature being relatively recent history.

It’s beginning to feel like Charlie Brown and the football at this point, but let’s see if they can actually get this one off the ground.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I would take that with a grain of salt - it’s a general-purpose Hollywood outlet reporting what their sources told them, so there could be room for inaccuracies.

They could also follow Simon Pegg’s contention that the Kelvin and Prime timelines could be different at any point in history (which I support).

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

It’s me. I’m people.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

It doesn’t bother me at all, because I don’t think a fictional universe needs to have a “default” setting.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Lower Decks, Prodigy, Picard, late-period Discovery…is that enough? Should I continue?

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Separating late-period from early period Discovery doesn’t really work.

So your contention is that the third and fourth seasons of Discovery are a prequel to…something?

Picard is still a relatively hard se-quel, which resonates with the essence of my argument

Which makes it a prequel? Your argument is that the default setting is “prequel.”

But okay, prequels are bad and sequels are bad, so I guess we need to pick one episode of “old Trek,” and all future series and films should occur simultaneously with that episode.

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Aren’t prequels the default setting?

The literal words out of your literal mouth.

And spare me the concern trolling bullshit.

I heard only last night about a script that is being written, but written specifically with the actor, Patrick [Stewart], to play in it. And I’ve been told to expect to receive it within a week or so.

Notably, that week was several weeks ago:

TrekMovie has confirmed with Josh Horowitz that this interview was recorded in early November as Stewart was out promoting his new memoir, Making It So.

Monosyllabic and obsessed with dom-jot?

ValueSubtracted Mod ,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

At what point would you move from the old stuff to the new stuff to keep someone from being too confused?

I don’t think confusion is a big concern - if she has some basic familiarity with the franchise, it shouldn’t take much more than explaining when the series is set. Beyond that, each show should stand on its own.

The only possible exception to this is “Picard,” which is the most reliant on a previous series, but even then, the show should give the viewer enough information to watch it on its own terms.
